Also felt like my arse was about 1 inch off the tarmac too though, and the lack of interior space felt claustrophobic. And the noise at motorway speeds was deafening.
Indeed, it depends on what you want the car to do. If I'm honest I don't drive that hard on public roads nowadays and if I looked at it objectively something like an X3 40 (d or i) would actually tick a lot of boxes for me; more than enough performance most of the time, handles well enough, decent ride over our lousy roads and enough space in the back for a couple of sets of golf clubs or the dogs - it would also be easier for my octogenarian mum to get in and out of when I take her out!

Perhaps I should take one out for a test drive albeit for me they're still a bit challenged in the looks department - gut feel says that, despite the dodgy new grille design, I'm far more likely to gravitate towards a G21 M340i!

Agree a saloon or coupe is better looking, even the G20 with its dodgy grille, but I'd definitely say the X3 is better looking than an estate though.

Definitely take one for a drive, I was very sceptical about one until I had the test drive in a 30d M Sport (with adaptive suspension) for a day, I was gutted when I gave it back.

I'm with you on the X3 looking better than an estate, but you and I are in a bit of a minority the SUV vs estate looks thing I think.

Passed a lovely X3 on the M4 today, just a 20i but looked great in phytonic blue.

Obviously an entirely subjective thing but from the pictures I've seen I'd take a G21 M340i over an X3 any day of the week! If my budget allowed (which sadly it doesn't!) I'd probably go for an RS4 which to my eye is also far better looking than any SUV; ditto a C63 estate.

ETTO though!

Only going to reply once, no idea what your problem is.

And not sure why the above is seemingly pointed out as a negative, with an insulting tone also used in previous posts in the thread.

My cars main purpose is as a work horse for my job. I opt out of the car scheme and take an allowance so I can have a better car, a car I like, for less than the price I'd pay for a company car. If I had a company car, I'd change it every 2-3 years, so I do the the with my car allowance.

I'm actually actively looking to change cars every few years, with a lot of company miles I like them to be covered by manufacturers warranty, so change them just before that runs out.

It's not my duty to do anything to help you feel better about being a member of this forum, and it's not my duty to fit your assumptions about how a car enthusiast should behave.

I put my car choice on here, and if you want to say something negative about it, that's your choice, it's a public forum and I expect that, not everyone can like the same thing. It's also your choice to write your posts about this in the tone of a complete wanker, to be honest I don't mind that either, as it completely distracts from any valid point you might have made.

Saw the M340i Tourer at the PGA Championship today, in Tanzanite blue, it looked fantastic. Also had a play with the new I drive, which I liked, a lot bigger difference in look than when it went from 5 to 6. Looks like a real step up.

Me too...

SUVs are ok but a good estate is better.

If anyone thinks a G20 saloon with that grille looks better than anything well, thatís an opinion they are allowed but not one I hold...

Sounds great! Show us a £499 deposit £499 a month RS4 deal and we're all on it I reckon

I never suggested an RS4 could be had for the same money as an X3 on a special deal; it was only mentioned in the context of the relative merits of the looks of estates as opposed to SUV's.

Mind you, I see even that arch estate hater Teaston is saying he'd have one so I guess that's tacit admission it does indeed look quite good!

I'm with you all too. Audi RS4s and RS6s are the exception to my estate rule, and have been for a couple of decades. I don't much like estates and I don't much like Audis, but I'd have a RS6 in a heartbeat if I could afford one.

I for one wish you happiness with your new steed, nothing in life is better than new car day apart from a blow job.

Another Option

Reading this thread I think I might buy a mid 2000's AM Vantage, perhaps a Volante for those numerous sunny days that we now have.

Could be fun and interesting................

Cheers

I've heard that's why everyone really goes to TRL.

If you had to choose between never being able to own or drive anything other than the car you've got right now or never having another blow bob, how on earth would you decide?
