New car is shit

On fuel, 21mpg so far, yes I know itíll get better but 73 quid and 370 miles range is poor, maybe I have it set to USA mpg which is only 23 bucks a tank ish?

Don't worry, I recently got 23.7mpg out of a tankful of diesel in my new car

Missus is like that with our new Tiguan, she was used to her 150 diesel Octavia costing about 50 quid to fill and go 400 miles (tiny tank). New 230 petrol is the same range but bigger tank so it’s now 75 quid to fill. I suppose sub 30mpg as opposed to over 40 doesn’t help either

Broncho, put the roof up, you are ruining the aerodynamics...

I darent check fuel consumption on mine... it was managing 26 on a long run but suspect that will go down after running in service is done today...

Big cars with small petrol engines always struggle

I always used to think this but my last two new cars have showed little if any improvement as the mileage has increased; after 76k miles my 335d is doing pretty much exactly the same mpg now as it was when it was brand new.

Perhaps it's different with petrol though - certainly hope so for Broncho's sake!

You guys don't know how to play the fuel economy game.

I'm in a F90 CP which has just about done 1400 miles and I'm getting 31mpg out of it when trying.

Admittedly it is a fukkin chore to get that kind of fuel economy out of it, but it is still possible.

How you guys are not breaking 40mpg in diesels I dont know.

Rather proves the point doesn't it, if your modern 2.0l 4 pot turbo coupled to a daddy long legs 9 speed auto only gets 21mpg.

Not really especially when the post is rather tongue in cheek, but you probably knew that anyway

Sorry didn't mean to come across as funny, it's a lovely car but they do struggle the 3l would be no worse in real life driving.

I think 21mpg will improve well hopefully or might as well have got an e63.

Should improve once the mechanicals have bedded in a bit more
That said, MB petrols are not known for their economy

All good, it's surprisingly quick as in it's probably Golf GTI quick and it makes an amazing noise, probably pumped in to some degree but coupled with the sports exhaust it's great.

I'm not really fussed about the economy but the Audi was returning an honest 35 - 38 on the same commute however they could have been set to different mpg I'll have to take a look but I'm still trying to get my head around the Merc infotainment.

One of the biggest issues the son in law had with both Mercs he drove was how crap on fuel they were versus the equivalent BMW. His were 3 litre petrols but truly poor v 440i the preceded and superseded them...

Assume these were C43's? If so out of interest how much worse were they compared to the 440i's?
