So what's it going to cost all up? Are you doing the install yourself or getting your dealer to do it?

A bit more than I expected initially. Going to install it myself and get it remote coded. Installation looks quite straightforward but will need to see the actual kit to confirm.

Hey guys, just wanting to get some feedback on retrofits, primarily for Perth, with possibility to extend to other states, depending on the situation.

I have a contact in Singapore (Maxx, Elebest Pty Ltd) who specialises in retrofits for BMW (various models), and he was looking at the opportunity at doing retrofits for cars here in Australia, as well as remote coding etc.

Here are the list of retrofits, but not limited to:

Harmon Kardon Mids and Tweeters
NBT Navigation,
PDC, Reverse Camera, Surround View Camera
BMW Apps
Instrument Cluster with extended scope

All parts are genuine from BMW, and he has also mentioned that these items can be purchased and installed by the buyer whilst being coded remotely later on, or for an additional charge can be fitted by the guys at Elebest, who will fly down from Singapore to do the install.

What are your thoughts? Obviously the system is not the same here as it is in Singapore where the car prices are pushing through the roof with the taxes and what not , and the possibility of retrofits would seem more appealing to them, but would like to get some feedback nonetheless if this idea sounds interesting for those locally in Australia.

Thanks
Harmon Kardon Mids and Tweeters <-- Shouldn't be too hard but the parts are very difficult to find.
NBT Navigation <--- DIY'd in with the help of a few friends and I paid about USD$1700 in parts including touch controller
PDC, Reverse Camera, Surround View Camera <--- PDC is very difficult to retrofit as you will need the PDC bumper and wiring to head unit. The reverse camera shares the same module as the surround view but you will need the cameras installed to the side mirrors and that is also labour intensive. Just the reverse camera itself isn't too bad.
BMW Apps <--- you can get this with the NBT retrofit if you are using a hardware activator. If your NBT is used and still has the original FSC code for BMW Apps stored in there, it will work.
Instrument Cluster with extended scope <--- Do'able but you will need a most cable to connect it to NBT and you will need to code it in properly. If the cluster used, you will also have to delete the mileage.

Hi Aritaurus, been following your NBT build thread, quite an awesome job you guys did there. Just a few points to add on:

1) The parts for the HK retrofit are quite easily accessible, the only issue is
with the labour to pull apart everything, and replace the trim.
2) The PDC retrofit can be done even on a bumper without pre-drilled
holes to my understanding, because there are markings at the back of
the bumper to indicate drill points. The only challenge would be to get
through the firewall in the engine compartment.
3) The instrument cluster retrofit would require a most cable, and also an
NBT headunit as well to my understanding. Double whammy I suppose.

PDC actually isn't that bad, I'm in the process of doing it myself and the hardest part for me has been waiting on the parts to arrive . You actually don't need a different bumper, you just have to have a steady hand and strong stomach to be willing to drill 8 holes through your front and rear bumpers. Can't speak to the other "lines", but m-sport is lucky enough to have marks on the inside of the bumper to tell you where to drill. Wiring actually goes to the REM, then code it up and your done.

As for the cameras, you are correct that the reverse isn't bad by itself. Surround view would be a bit tougher, sourcing all the wiring for the hookup was what kept me away from doing that retrofit. If you get a kit it would include it all I'm sure, and it would definitely be a decent time investment to install it all.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Drilling the holes does make sense as the PDC sensors come pre-painted. I don't think I could ever trust myself to do that though so it would be really labour intensive.

6WA can be used on any build actually (even HU_ENTRY). Here in Canada, if you take a 328i or 335i in Luxury, Modern, Sport or M Sport, it is standard equipment. One of the bosses at at company has a Luxury Line 335i xDrive with no navigation and he has 6WA on HU_ENTRY.

My car came with Comfort Access, CIC, 6WA, Alarm System and the rear PDC so the only thing I really wanted was NBT and the reverse camera.

The reverse camera, I'm thinking about getting one of the aftermarket ones that are OEM integrated. They go for about USD$350 on ebay and the camera module seems to emulate the OEM one and it connects t othe KCAN2 lines on NBT so it will work just like OEM.

I don't think I'd ever trust myself with a drill on my bumper so I'm not as hardcore as some of you guys.

I thought about doing the front PDC but it seems like it's going to be the same amount of work if not more and I don't want to do anything too intense that could void my warranty.

The NBT retrofit is actually quite easily reversible as it's pretty much just putting the old head unit back in and rerouting the mic and Bluetooth Antenna, putting in the CIC controller and reversing some coding in my case. I still wonder if you retrofit the reverse camera and PDC the OEM way, and code it into you FA properly, will BMW still be able to apply software updates to your car?

No front PDC on 328i as a standard? Wow...its standard here, anything above and including the 320i has front PDC as standard...
How does HU entry communicate with 6WA without the MOST connection?

On my 2012, you get the rear PDC if you take the premium package which is $4500. Front PDC comes with the executive package with the driver assistance package I think.

For 2014 models, you get both the front and rear PDC with the premium package now which is $3500. 2014 328i and 335i models also get NBT navigation as standard equipment.

For 6WA, the most connector goes to the main connector that goes into the head unit. Steddyman from the UK, had a 6WA with HU_ENTRY and his main connector also had the most optic cable as part of the connector. If you're going to NBT, you just plug it in and it will work.

I will post pics of how it goes, I plan to do diy's as I go. You'd be surprised how hard it was to find 30mm drill bits in the US, finally had to order some from the UK... to drill 2 holes... Oh the joys of M-Sport lol.

As far as I know it wouldn't cause any problems. IIRC, someone who had done the xenon retrofit took it in for service and they updated it, and it acted like he was supposed to have xenons, with the exception of an error he had been having already. So it seems as long as the option is FA coded, it would stay.

In the US it isn't standard at all, you can order 320, 328, or 335 without any PDC or camera. Hence why I'm having to go back and add them all

Yep I think they do. I noticed they did one last week at their Singapore Workshop.

Maybe check out their facebook album for the retrofit
