Did you get free air filter replacement?
I checked all my service documents for over 5 years and there was no mention of engine air filter change. Did you get free air filter change during your first 4 years of ownership?
What is the recommended miles/years for f30 air filter change anyway? Thanks! |

interesting...I am at 5 years and 40K miles. There was no mention of needing change during my last service 2 months back....It should be easy money for the dealer to suggest a change....

...air filter (and wiper blades) were included during annual oil change service under maintenance program during first 4 years (avg 5K miles/yr)....just took it in for last service before expiration of maintenance program and air filer was again included.

For sure had this changed during my free maintenance/service period. More than once.
I believe 10k miles is a reasonable time to swap considering an OEM replacement is literally $5. |

Mine have been replaced every 15k miles covered with maintenance plan.

Thanks all for replies. May I know your dealer wrote down that the engine filter was changed in your service printout?
My cabin filter change was mentioned once in the printouts. Not once the engine air filter change was mentioned. |

For 2013 4 years/50k miles free maintenance, the cabin air filter is tied to brake fluid change(every 2 years), and the engine air filter is tied to 3rd oil change(2013 is 2 years/15k miles OCI).

Are you saying for 2013 there is no need to change engine air filter until 6 years/45K miles? That is pretty long time for engine air filter change!!!

Now I need to go check mine. I just got my first oil change so I wonder if they took my AFE drop in and replaced it with OEM.

...whoops, just noticed OP was referencing engine air filter not cabin air filter. My 2015 N26 maintenance schedule indicates every 5th oil change (so every 25K miles)... the interval is every two oil changes for diesel.

There was only one free engine air filter change during 4 years/50k miles. This summer the engine air filter was on sale for $3.84 + tax at local BMW parts desk, so a new one was swapped in. |

I just checked mine and it is still original from 5 years ago. Date on it is March 2013. Going to swap in K&N filter just for slight improvement in sound (according to web review). : ) |

Do note the intake silencer service interval in iDrive/key data is tied to 3rd oil change. If OCI is already reset, the intake silencer service interval will be reset to the next 3rd oil change. BTW, the best online price of BMW logo engine air filter now is $16 + shipping. |

Anyway, I am not going to worry about a <$20 part. I want to try K&N filter anyway. Thanks! |

It is great that Amazon offers free one day prime shipping for certain items. I ordered it yesterday afternoon, and got the K&N filter at 7pm today!
Anyway, new filter definitely helped with car responsiveness! It felt smoother and acceleration seems better. I am not sure if it is really due to K&N or not since any new filter should be better than my 5 years old filter. Last edited by Pdxway; 12-09-2018 at 11:51 PM.. |

My filter was due for replacement a few months ago, but since I have an Injen intake the techs left it in my passenger seat and didn't say a word lol. Im at 75k miles so I think I was at 70k when it was due for replacement
