As I said above the port under the radio is a true cigarette lighter port and not an accessory port so the type of adapter you can use varies. The connecting end needs to narrow else it will foul the prongs at the base of the port.

Glad I found this thread. Been fighting with my Escort 360 Max plug for months in my M2. If I push down hard it connects but any slight wiggle like when I put a water bottle in the holder and it loses power. Driving me nuts. Same on my son's 340i.

I just started looking for solutions. I found a few options like this extension: https://amzn.to/2UtbGNb

I'm not sure I want to do it because the Escort has the mute button I like to press to silence false alerts. If it is a free-floating adapter and if I try to press the mute button an extension like this will move so I'd have to mount it so there is no "give" when pressing.

Then I found this thing ( https://amzn.to/2L5UybX )which was pretty cool. It adds three cigarette ports and would be sturdy plus adds 3 USB chargers on the plug itself. It fits into the cupholder which would work for this application. However the only downside is I would lose one cupholder (maybe have my wife or me use door for water bottle).

I found this one-to-two socket extender ( https://amzn.to/2L6niRY ) but I think it might be too wide in the socket on my M2 and block cup/bottle on either side of it. The current escort plug barely squeezes in between the holders on my M2 now. Maybe for a wider setup it would work.

The last one I found is this ( https://amzn.to/2UqSxM1 ) and pretty sure it would fit and might be the best solution. The ONLY thing I don't know is will this plug have the same exact issue as the Escort Max plug has? Actually, do all of these plugs have the same socket style issue or none of them? Has anyone tried any of these?

I need a solution though. Last night I drove for about 30 minutes before I realized my water bottle bumped the plug in the socket and lost power. Could have been bad if I was doing some spirited driving

Hi. I ended up taking apart the cigarette lighter adaptor and melting a blob of solder on the metal tip to extend it just a bit further. Then put it back together. This seems to have done the trick.

I took it apart so I didn’t melt the plastic while soldering.

Some of the options I listed probably would have worked with varying degrees of success but I read somebody else who did the solder trick so tried it and it worked at least for now.

This and the fact that USB charging is 5 volts and max 1A for a USB A Skt.

I reached out to Anker (as I like their products) and they recommended their Mini 24W 4.8 charger. Link: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

It works! Immediately got a light on the device and confirmed my iPhone gets enough power to charge (probably slowly though).

Thanks!

I just got 2017 F30, and the front cig lighter appeared to not be working. I checked the fuse, and sure enough, it was actually blown. I replaced it and it still didn't work. Read this thread, and went and plugged a different device into the outlet and it worked fine. I never would have guessed that. I also discovered the hidden outlet under the glove box, so thank you, thank you.
