F30 Homelink Mirror Retrofit

I was thinking about retrofitting a homelink mirror (the one with the 3 buttons) to my 2017 330e (EU spec) so I can set it up for my gates which I know are compatible with the homelink
Something like this: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/BMW-2012-201...gAAOSwUwlbINsb

My question is do I need to code anything or is it plug and play?
Homelink option seems to be a US spec thing so I wonder is there also a homelink module elsewhere in the car or is everything needed for that to work in the mirror itself?

Tons of threads on this man. It's a direct swap, homelink just needs power - no coding required.

I retrofitted one myself. My car had auto dim only, I retrofitted a new mirror and gained the compass and homelink successfully.

I did find a few threads alright but now I wonder if the frequencies are ok, for example if I get a mirror from Ebay US will it work with my 433hz gate remote control? Apparently different countries homelink mirrors run on different frequencies.

Good question and that I'm not sure about. You would need to refer to your garage or gate manual and see what it specs.

I got mine locally from a buddy so it was a straightforward update.

Yeah I need to find the US homelink spec for the frequencies.
For the installation, is it straightforward enough? No need to mess with the rain/light sensor etc?

Nah it's simple.

Shroud comes off and then the mirror pops off. There a bunch of DIY on here and YouTube.

Harness for power is plug and play. The pinning is what will determine what has power and what doesn't.

Still unsure if just getting any F30 mirror with auto dip is enough or will it mess with my other options since according to http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/F3...r_mirror#pos_2 it looks like if you have driving assistant, road sign detection, high beam assistant there is a particular mirror to get?

Any idea what homelink version is in those mirrors? Apparently I need version 7 at least for my gate system.

Do you need to disconnect the battery when taking out the old mirror in order to not get xmas lights on the dash or no need?

Nope battery stays connected. Just have your car off.

So I got the mirror and installed it, all checks out functionality wise, the compass thing is cool.
But unable to program the buttons.
Followed this
and also official homelink videos but no luck

I have a set of gates Mhouse WU2 running at 433.92 MHz for the transmitters and according to the compatibility list they are supported by homelink (see attached) any tips? Maybe I'm doing this wrong.

Looks like the gates do have rolling codes but not sure about this magical "learn button", it does have one but pressing that and then the homelink button doesn't do much.
Unless these US mirrors work on different frequencies and don't accept 433.92 mhz

Well for anyone else in Europe trying to get on the homelink wagon by getting a US mirror don't bother, homelink has confirmed the frequencies are lame:

I am afraid, that if your Homelink system is a US version, it hence uses radio frequencies which are different from the EU versions.

Some of these frequencies are reserved for special purposes such as police radio, emergency services, public authorities, etc. Therefore, it is not permitted to use the US frequencies in Europe and the other way round, making it impossible to operate an EU garage door opener with a US Homelink System

I've been wanting to do this as well. Do you know if it would be a direct swap if my mirror doesn't even have the auto dim? I wasn't sure if the car was already set up for those features even with a basic mirror.

Just plugging in the homelink mirror cause an error in the FEM module. The FEM need to be coded to add the homeling/compass mirror properly.

Seems odd not to have homelink on a 330e since you would need a garage to charge the car in.

Hi.

I solved it by simply removing the control unit check on the mirror.

In practice, now the control unit no longer controls which mirror I use, and no longer shows these 2 annoying errors.

Obviously the mirror works in everything.

Here's how to "fix":

BDC or FEM
3120 PfInternalMirror

PF_INMI_LIN_VAR -> set to nicht_aktiv
PF_UGDO_LIN_VAR -> set to nicht_aktiv
UGDO -> set to aktiv

Let me know!

Sorry, what does the control unit do exactly?
