To revive this tread
Is there no way to check rail pressure upon stopping the engine and rechecking it in an hour or so or next morning? Via obd? I woul guess that in case of open injector all of the 3500bar would be gone rather quickly. Or is there some mechanism involved letting pressure out after engine off anyway? |

The jist of it:
There's many OBD apps that have fuel rail pressure readings in their monitor list. Turn off the warm engine and monitor. Pressure should rise due to warmth, if it decreases then you may want to investigate. |

Did the test yesterday, the idle pressure 13 (Mpsi? - forgot the unit) jumped to 16 upon turning off the engine and stayed there for 4minutes. Didnt wait longer, presumably there is no leak. Will repeat the test at various temperatures in the future.

If your on BM3 what you want to monitor at shut off is HPFP Act (measured in psig). Once you shut off the car with one button press keep watching the pressure number - It should slowly rise as the metal hard lines absorb the latent heat from the motor. Best to do this after driving around and fully warming up the engine to operating temp. If the number in HPFP Act. starts dropping immediately after shut off then that is pretty clear indication that the pressure that was present at shutdown is being released through a leaky injector. You can also get a copy of ISTA + and perform the smooth running tests to look at injector performance although this is a more involved process. It is however an amazing set of tools so well worth the trouble. Would be great for Kern to take some of us noobs through the more valuable tests and parameters on Ista that can be done.

I wanted to share my experience with yall. Mine is 2016 model b58. Replaced all injectors at 78k miles. I had a symptom of occasional long cranks, roughly 5-10s. After the long crank the engine starts out really strong, had codes of low rail pressure. I first suspected the LPFP, but it wasn't. The old injectors were nasty and gunked up, I suspected it of leaking. After the injector replacement, no more long cranks, it has been running great.
