Ha!

Had the same issue a while back, made it worse by scratching the paintwork when removing the stuff.

Paid a guy £60 to machine polish it out. Looked so straightforward I bought my own DA polisher, some light cutting polish and some pads. Just a light machine polish is all that's needed for bird stains, especially if they haven't been there for long...

I use Meguiar's Scratch-X for that. It's worked well for me: https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Scra...9520901&sr=8-1

Yes it can happen to black paint. Go for the least abrasive most effective method first.

The key is preparation to save yourself even more work. Milk! Detailing spray. Polishing compound.

Megs scratch X or Chemical Guys VSS
DA polish for best results and it you cannot remove it by hand then a DA polish is a must.

Lastly a decent wax could save you all of this trouble! So protect your paint once it's all done.

Yeah once the stain has been burned in a little, you are looking a polishing method to get it out.

You might be able to get away with some Halfords bought polish and a foam pad if its not too bad but I tend to just run the DA over mine and it comes up a treat after a couple of passes.

^ I haven't tried this but it looks good. Might be worth reading the reviews.

Yeah I had a friend wet sand and polish a massive etching on my bonnet out. Thankfully you'd never know it was there now.

Whenever I see my car with bird crap on it I run out with detailing spray and get it off straight away!

Rule number one - bird shit should be removed IMMEDIATELY! That means - the minute you see it, not in one hour, not in one day! Don't wait for a car wash - you should have the necessary "tools" in your trunk!

Trust me - I learned it the hard way.

Once it burns the clearcoat - you can only improve or fix it through polishing. But if the clearcoat already cracked - there isn't much you can do. Polishing will improve it a little bit, but it will remain visible... I have that, unfortunately.

P.s. never heard of the AutoGlym product above.... I wonder if it really works and if there are no risks involved.

In reality any Quick Detailer does the job. I always have one in the boot.
Or water as a fallback. Just put some soaked wet soft papers on it, wait a few seconds and remove. NO RUBBING! If it does not come off - soak some more. Never rub!

I use baby wipes. Just hold it over the muck till it softens it. Then wipe it off and rinse with water.

I’m assuming here that we’re talking about the feathered variety and not an ex girl friend .

I’ve found the meguairs scratch x to be the product of choice for removing pigeon shit stains

Sometimes it pays to leave a couple of days between applications, I assume the sun helps in between applications.

Had plenty of experience as my neighbour insists on feeding the flying feral shit bags.

I always keep a pack of these in my car. If I run out I have wet wipes (but unlike autoglym they leave streaks)

Agree, touch wood, I’ve never had any permanent stains on a car from bird shit, but my cars usually got a wax coating on it.

And.... as mentioned - wax or other type of
protection! Neither protects fully (except PPF), but they (the quality products that is) buy some time.

These marks are usually pretty easy to remove. Machine polishing is not usually required.

It is heat that removes the marks. A lot of heat is generated by machine polishing hence why people believe it is the only way.

Point a heat gun, or safer a hairdryer set to hot, at the mark for a few minutes and it'll disappear right in front of your eyes.

I didn't believe this would work when i first heard it. But it does!
