new bumper and carbon splitter - overkill?!? EDIT:sorted

Dropped off my bmw for what I thought was an easy cosmetic fix. Perhaps readjusting the splitter.
However, the response from BMW on the first call was that I need a new splitter - £1500. I said no and they said they can fit a new undertray and replace the undertray adapter. They did so and they called to say it's all fixed.
Picked it up yesterday and it still looks the same, so I called and asked why it still looks wonky. Now they tell me that in addition to a new splitter I need a new front bumper.

What are your thoughts?

From this video grab, doesn't it jut look like they haven't been connected?

If the bumper is distorted, I can't see how this warrants buying a new carbon splitter. Not sure if I'm being duped here, but find it hard to believe it's a 2k+ job to fix

Looks like you should be able to take the bolt out of the left hand side that's pinning it to the bumper, put it back in without threading it through the splitter and it should match the right hand side? Or am I missing what the issue is here?

Wondering if there has been previous damage which is why they have bolted it there!

I was wondering the same but they said they had the splitter of and inspected the front for further damage. Just had a reply from them. They said they could not attach the bolt because of the bumper distortion. I'm thinking a heat gun....

Yeah that's what I'd do, remove the bolt and get the heat gun on the bumper before reattaching if it is distorted. That's assuming it's also fixed in the normal locations so it's sturdy. I certainly wouldn't be paying 2k to fix it.

I'd also be asking for my money back if they changed the under tray with no cosmetic improvement as that was the point of it.

If I soften the bumper part with a heat gun, it seems this bit might be pushing it down. Not sure what it is.

you can see it through the bumper:

Bmw said they fixed it and it's sturdy, just that last bolt does not reach because of the distortion

Couldn't you either make the hole bigger and use washers to cover the extra size or make make a bracket to bridge the difference? Sure it would be quite easy to fix but the problem with Bmw is they won't don't do anything unless it's absolutely perfect hence them advising you need a new bumper. Another garage would sort it for you for pennies I'm sure.

Your correct in saying this is not connected where is should be which will resolve the first issue.

just tried to push it up with as much force as I can and it doesn't budge at all. The chassis doesn't extend to the front area right? as in, no metal bits?
and what's this bit doing flapping around, isn't it meant to fit under the tray part or at least be screwed in place?

The isn't any metal there no, just a very ridged plastic. As for the flap, not sure what that is I am afraid.

Recommend you take it to a non Bmw garage for a second opinion and see if there can get around it without the need to replace the bumper.

Best of luck.

Got the issue fixed in less than 1 hour last Sunday and it now looks like new. £50.
A pretty dodgy looking place, but was recommended by a friend and the guy working there knows his stuff.
Basically just had to take off the undertray/adapter, heat the distorted part of the bumper and screw it back in place. The bumper had no cracks, just a bend. For BMW to advice me on a new splitter and bumper at a 4k cost is beyond nuts - definitely will think twice using them for non-critical work.

Excellent, beats the Bmw quote. Glad it was easily rectified for you and for pennies 😀

The 1500 quote was not including the bumper - that was an additional £1500 + labour

Extortionate! Mind you from reading some of the posts in this forum it doesn't surprise me. BMW would be the last place I take my car.
