iDrive Spotify
Car is a 69 plate 440i
Until yesterday when I jumped in it picked up the phone and could play and control Spotify (connected via Bluetooth) via the iDrive. Nothing (as far as I'm aware) has changed. No updates etc. It's an iPhone 11. Now the phone is still connected but for calls only - no Spotify. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting. Phone off and on. No joy. Any ideas? |

On the Android version Spotify connection to idrive was removed in a recent update. I assume the same might have happened on the iOS version

It's not just the control that's lost.
Even connecting via Bluetooth and starting Spotify on my phone does nothing. I'll check (or try to check) when Spotify was last updated. |

Re-boot the idrive, push the volume knob in and hold it in for 30 seconds or until the screen goes off, then release and wait for it to come back.
once back, go to the connected drive menu, press the options button on the idrive controller and select Update Services, then wait. APPS should come back in to the menu. |

Loads of questions about this through the forum mate, its happened to a load of us, when i first got the car it was working great and was a bit of a bonus TBF but since last update or maybe even the one before that it just vanished, just something for BMW & Spotify to sort out i guess.

Was a bonus when it connected and could be controlled over Bluetooth when I picked the new car up but then yesterday zero. Nothing over Bluetooth. Annoying. |

Plugged iPhone in via USB and USB not recognised. Tried reconnecting Bluetooth - phone connects but music doesn't. |

"Might seem silly suggesting this but under the Bluetooth devices menu, it may show as calls only, and not media. It's a selectable option. Make sure it's checked for both calls and media?"
Yep, checked it. Thing is it was working fine and then it wasn't. I was on the school run, Spotify working on the way there. Dropped off, not working on the way back. Nothing changed. Restarted the phone, tried to reboot the iDrive (unsuccessfully), tried to connect with cable - not recognised as a USB device. I'm on the verge of pulling the car battery. |

Have you got any other BT devices, like wireless speakers or AirPods in a backpack in the car, or within distance when starting the car?
Is the output audio on the bottom left on the Spotify app as “BMW xxxxx”. Another check would be YouTube and see if audio media is being output. |

If not, disconnect the battery negative lead for 10 seconds - that will acheive the same thing. |

Only audio option is the phone speaker. Nothing was updated, nothing added, nothing changed. It just stopped working. |

69 plate it's still in warranty.
Take it in to the BMW tech nerd? I had an issue with the nav settings popped in and a child in a BMW polo shirt called a genius sorted it in about 30 seconds much to my embarrassment. I currently have Deezer via BMW subscription. I'm not at big fan of the platform for use on phone or tablet but it works very well in the car. I prioritise a better car interface above the phone though. I was going to swap to Spotify for both when the Deezer subscription is up. Yet there seems to be such a faff in the car with Spotify for many on here I'm sticking with Deezer til BM and Spotify get themselves sorted. |

My previous experiences with BMW 'genius' are not positive.
Think I'm still waiting on a call back from my last enquiry. When I can be bothered I'll try the battery pull to reset the iDrive. Although it won't connect to my wife's 2016 X1 now so it may well be something on the phone. Her Spotify works in her car. Bizarre. |

As inexplicably as it stopped, it started again.
Wish I could tell you what caused it to stop and to start. Other than pulling the battery and restarting the iDrive (holding in the volume button for 30 seconds didn't reset it) I tried all the things above. None worked at the time. Got in the car an hour or so ago. Switched it on, switched on the Bluetooth on my phone and it worked. |
