Because of the way it looks or it's functionality?

Actually the F34 aka Gran Turismo has it too. That was one of the main reasons I went with mine over the F36... not to mention double the rear leg room. For families with kids... it's a joy to have!

Bit of both really. I think it stems from owning older BMW’s where they have leaked, got blocked drains, rusted etc.
I had to have the entire roof replaced on my E30 due to rust in the sunroof support tray. A friend with an E60 M5 had blocked drains which filled the boot with water and destroyed the PDC module. I personally prefer a nice solid roof panel too. Easier to keep clean, and just looks better IMO. |

Must say that I love having one, having never had one before. Having had previous cars with dark leather with dark headlining, it's great to have light in the cabin. I have coral red leather, and with the sunroof it's a very pleasant place to be.
I use it more than I thought I would too. I'd deffo look at having one on my next car. Not a deal breaker though. One of my colleagues at work hates them. He prefers the 'cocoon' type of feeling in the cabin. Must say, coming home from work today with the sunroof wide open was a good thing

Taste is different, but I think it compliments the car - at least I like it on mine against the white colour. Main thing for me is the light in the cabin - with black leather and tinted windows it really helps brighten it up. And keeping the sunroof on tilt produces less wind noise than leaving any of the windows open

Panoramic roof was a must have on my f31 having had it on my e91. It brightens up what is otherwise quite a gloomy cabin. It doesn't retract as fully as the e91 though, having 2 equal size panels rather than one larger and one smaller panel

Also, some of us don't have more than one vehicle. Panoramic roof adds another dimension, gives as near to an open top car as we can get in one package. As a side point, I choose a touring with panoramic roof, (even better with a decent petrol engine). For me it fulfils the role of decent individual and family transport, with near saloon car dynamics. It's a practical load hauler, plus an open roof (wind in the hair) for those times when conditions are suitable. Best all-round choice I can think of. |

E91 panoramic roof was a good bit of kit. Made my E91, best option. Shame we lost it in the latest models, for a simpler (hopefully more reliable) design.

Absolutely love having it in mine as others have said it makes such a huge difference just with the blind back and the extra light into the cabin.
I wouldn't buy a touring without one now.

I’m about to buy a 2016 F31 with a panoramic sunroof and wanted to know how reliable are the sunroof? are they noisy at 70mph etc? and are they prone to leaks? I’ve never owned a car with this kind of sunroof and I’m a bit sceptical, Its actually delaying my buying decision making me undecided.
Also, I thought they infringed on the headroom in the cabin but turns our after testing a car without panoramic sunroof, that car had less headroom? I usually keep my cars 9+ years so reliability is everything. Thanks. |

As some folks have said there can be reliability issues with these especially on the older cars.
Is there a recommended cleaning or maintenance regime for the F30/1 |

What I did notice though is that it's quieter on my 340 than my first one, in terms of wind noise. I don't notice any now with the blind open, whereas I did a little before. So I'd say ensure you drive the car on motorway with blind open, but roof closed and check if you hear any.

I love the pano roof, was one of the main options I was grateful that the previous owner had spec'd. Coming from having two convertibles beforehand, I can't really live with a solid roof anymore.

I am getting excessive wind noise from my pan roof, so much so that I leave the blind closed now. Is it likely to be the seals? Don't really want to take it to BMW, but want it sorting as I love the extra light in the cabin.
Thanks |

I just clean my roofs seals with a warm water & a microfibre to get any surface muck off and then apply Gummi Pflege to them the same way I do to the door seals.

If a pano' roof is noisy, worth checking if the position of the opening panel is correct. Only takes a small error in the closed position to generate noise. My E91 pano' roof somehow moved slightly, only a few thou' out of position, but once adjusted was near silent again. |
