Tried again this morning - status 195 - which translates to "at sea" - so back where we were then although this Genius could tell me it was due to the dealers WC 9 November.

Sounds like they've outsourced Genius to LR, mate. Sorry!

Relax, have a beer, wait for the call. Collect your car.

I’ve never asked Genius about a new car delivery. Well, not today (yet) anyway.

I'm trying to relax, I really am.

Trouble is, it's an alien position for me. I've not been without a car at all since I bought my first one when I was 16 (yes I know I couldn't drive then but it took me nigh on a year to rebuild it)

And I know when it does arrive it will mostly be an expensive drive ornament as I'm WFH for the foreseeable future but I just miss having one

Not long now then, couple of weeks tops.....

Given restrictions I am not sure my new one will make 1000 miles by xmas (and I will do best part of 200 driving it home!) but I am sure I will feel better when it arrives....and well, if you cant do anything else I will at least be able to go for a nice drive!

Sounds about right. I expect to finally reach 1k miles in mine over the weekend, that will have taken a touch over three months. Between our cars, the wife and I have covered around 2k since March 1st I think.

I've done 2k in the Mini in the last 3 months..... but now I have decided I need a better car for those long journeys I wont be making them again (partly as Mum's area has gone into Tier 2 restrictions so I cant go and stay with her...).

Mind you as tenants move out in Dec I might just go and stay in that house whilst I have refurb work done - that should at least mean I can look at it on the drive!

It terms of the rules alone, your mum (if she lives alone and hasn't already got one) could make you part of her support bubble and then even Tier 3 wouldn't stop you visiting and staying there. However, I imagine the risk of passing the virus to her probably would.

I visit and stay with a friend in a Tier 2 area currently, entirely within the rules as we are in a support bubble.

Yes, unfortunately as my brother lives locally we decided he should be the support bubble for her as more sensible - and besides I need my support bubble to be visiting another female who lives alone

Sadly at the moment my brother cant visit as he has the virus....

Todays update - 9630 - At Port of Entry

but were going to be locked down so no collection likely until December

Did anyone get a collection sorted during last lockdown? Genuine question, I know that car showrooms will be closed (as per the gov.uk list of closed premises) but the dealerships stay open for repairs etc although it's with less staff.

I don't think it's possible in lockdown, at least last time it wasn't. Collected M135i in the last week before lockdown and MX5 just as they opened back up so just good luck. I think you'll be just in the midst of a full lockdown.... unless you can divert it to as Welsh dealer, is it a HJ car? Llandudno.

I jest, not really going to be happening that, looks lien and early Xmas present now.

Its a HJ car yes Chris.

Just been reading the rules and the difference this time is non essential retail can continue for delivery or click and collect so might be in with a chance. Will speak to HJ tomorrow and get a steer. I suppose it all depends on the dealers stance.

I think that GBR1 had his Touareg delivered during the first lockdown and posted about how it went on here. Perhaps it was after the easing of certain restrictions, can't recall.

Cheers Mashin. Just found that thread and that was just at the start of last lockdown.

Fingers crossed then . . .

My 840i was due to be delivered to me during the last week of March, in part to avoid the £775 hike in first year VED as official CO2/km levels had to be more realistic from April 1st. I was far from alone in this - about 30 of us were expecting delivery of 840is at the same time from Williams Manchester.

In practice the dealers closed their doors on 23rd March and the cars sat unregistered at Williams Manchester (and Stockport, Liverpool) until mid June when deliveries restarted.

I don't expect it to be the same this time. There is a clear instruction for workplaces to remain open during this lockdown except for some retail / hospitality / gyms etc. I think cars will continue to be delivered, but I would be interested to know what your dealer says.

Ours is due in November as well. As it’s a car for my wife, who is an NHS key worker, ordered through BMW’s NHS scheme, I’m hoping they find a way to deliver it.

Spoke to son in law, they are waiting for more detail from the govt but hoping that as non essential shops can do click and collect they will be able to do the same....

I think that will be the case with either delivery or non contact handover.

Delivery can get pricey if you are far away so, as not agreed in the original sale, unless that is the only option, I think they will push for contactless collection.

Think I am glad I get to fetch mine ahead of lockdown and then park it on the drive for a month!

I'm only just over a mile away, 2 at most, so I don't think delivery is worth the hassle.
Contactless collection will work for me
