N55 oil stains on exhaust manifold
Greetings all,
I just recently bought a 435i 2015 with 90k km (56k miles) on it. The last couple of days I have noticed a burning oil smell when reaching normal operating temperature and coming to a stop (after 10-20 seconds you smell it in the cabin). I have noticed minor oil stains on both down pipe and exhaust manifold looking like this: I managed to wipe off the stains on the manifold - however a new stain has appeared: Can anyone tell me where this leak is emerging from? Much appreciated - thanks! Friendly Regards /Tom |

100% valve cover leak.
Replace cover including gaskets, I choose Elring and it has held up great for 30k kms 😄 Make sure to have a spare vent hose at hand because it is very brittle. I followed this video and it took me 2h. https://youtu.be/oxzEuSCiLqM?si=YEUFcGfIFWGl_dRq |

That's definitely a valve cover gasket failure. The valve cover is likely cracked, as well (happened on my car as well as my wife's). This also replaces the PCV valve that's built into the cover, so you kill three birds with one stone.

fijigabe0 Thanks a lot for your feedback. The repair cannot be complete until next month. Keeping an eye on the leak and oil levels, what's your take on if I keep driving the car. Any risk of additional problems/damage? Thanks! |

No problem really besides smoke and smell. It often drips lightly, also clean the heat shield because oil will creep in it’s crevices

Looks like your valve cover gasket is bad.
