In Canada, at a reputable shop (RMP Motors) cost me about $3500 all in with parts, $2500 labour and $1000 parts. Could have done it cheaper at another shop labour wise, but for a job of this magnitude best not to cut corners. For parts check ECS Tuning or FCP Euro. I elected for the kit from ECS because it uses an OEM chain, whereas the one on FCP Euro is a different brand.

Parts:
Timing Chain Rebuild Kit
Timing Chain Tensioner
Oil Pump Drive Chain assembly (don't have to do this but did it at the same time)
Valve Cover Gaskets
Oil Pan Gasket
Engine Oil

Most, if not all of us here don't work at dealers or repair shops, therefore none of us could even begin to give you a price.

If you want a definitive answer, google it or call your nearest dealer or independent repair shop.

Call Lehigh Valley Motors (they're south of Allentown in PA) I had him do the chain on my non-xdrive and it was a very good price. Tell him Jake with the Blue F30 referred you.

What engine? N20 is anywhere from 4-6k at a dealership.

I heard if your car is a SULEV, you should be under warranty as long as it's under 150,000 miles and/or <15 years

Correct, only the N26 is SULEV, N20 is ULEV.

I believe it's 10 years as well, not 15, but unsure.

The N20 timing chain is also covered for vehicles made before 02/15.

Yes, in a SULEV state for all emissions control related parts. The timing chain isn't one of them.

My dealer told me it would be, as an engine being out of time would cause more emissions.

Timing chain failure doesn't cause the engine timing to be off. SULEV covers the fuel injection system, the ignition system, catalytic converter, and engine computer. Also included may be hoses, belts, connectors and other emission-related assemblies. In order to have a SULEV claim the car must first fail an emissions test.

Let clear up the SULEV/timing chain warranty misinformation once and for all.

Warranty booklet is very clear.... timing chain is covered only on 2016 and newer N26 SULEV vehicles.

Hello Everyone,

I took my car to my mechanic and the car wouldn’t start. He opened it up because he thought it was the starter. Come to find out it was a time chain that slipped. He suggested that I take it to the dealership to see if they can cover it. I have a 2016 328i sulev GT with 48,790 miles. Does anyone know if there is coverage on that model?
Some advice would be really appreciated.

See the comment above by eddymerckx3 and attached PDF document provided. Read the section about US states covered by SULEV emissions laws and also read the section "2016 BMW Emissions Related Parts List". It includes the "328xDrive GT SULEV" and "timing chain" is on the list. Contact your local dealer after educating yourself on the emissions warranty coverage and regulations in your state.

P.S. What is your build date? It is interesting to see this on a 2016 N26 with lower miles, since the updated/current timing chain/chain guide/tensioner etc. should be in place per BMW in a 2016 N26.

Thank you for the quick feedback. I dropped it off at the dealership not too long ago, waiting for the phone call. I did however look into the production build date. Looked up the las 7 of the VIN at realOEM.com and it has the production is dated to 01/2016.
