New to coding - worth the risk?

I'm a new owner of a 2017 F31 and hadn't considered any coding until I disappeared down the rabbit hole of this forum a couple of nights ago. Now I'm finding loads of things on the car I'd like to tinker with.

From everything I'm reading it sounds really straightforward using the BimmerCode app. It's something I'd like to try, but not at the expense of bricking an ECU.

For someone with no experience of this (ever, on any car) is it really as simple and low risk as it sounds?

Thanks!

So long as you don't use expert mode it's virtually impossible to hurt anything with Bimmercode.

Thanks Billfitz. I don't think anything I was considering doing will require going anywhere near expert mode.

I've seen the list of compatible OBD adaptors listed on the BimmerCode app, but is there one that most people seem to prefer? Or are they all pretty much the same?
