From the brochure that can be downloaded from the BMW site, it looks like I should be able to get an M Sport that's close to what I want: 328i Alpine White, 6 spd manual, black leatherette, wood, sunroof, heated seats and sunroof while, I hope, keeping things in the low 40s. I like the handling balance with the staggered wheels on my present car.

Listening carefully to the Joey Hand video review, the 328i seems to be the better car -- not quite as fast but quicker to turn in and more agile -- he makes two comments in the video to that effect.

The BMW material reads as though the M Sport has suspension that's specific to the package, meaning firmer than the Sport Line, but can anyone confirm?

On the 328i M Sport, can you get HID headlights without paying for a ridiculous and unneeded $3600 luxury package (a prerequisite on the 328i Sport Line)? HIDs are standard issue on a 2013 Mustang V6. BMW's package and pricing policy on the F30 is not user friendly when compared to the E90, where HIDs were a standalone option.

Also, I'd be sorry if the fogs are being removed for the US market M Sport (are they definitely? --the M Sport in the brochure photos show them installed). I find that coupled with the HIDs they add real value in rain and mist.

This is the one big question that i have been waitin for an answer on. the marketing language isnt specific and doesnt concretely answer the Q ... im hoping that it is firmer ... otherwise, performance suspension here i come

Yep.

I'm with you on both issues and unfortunately they are both true.

From what I've read from the people who know on this forum, the M sport suspension is the same as the sport line suspension.

MSport is pretty much a cosmetic pkg., unless BMW decides to include the Msport brakes. But, that would push the price even higher and frankly I don't think those brakes are needed for non track use.
Oh, the tires will be staggered, same 225 up front and 255 rear.
I'd prefer to go straight as I'll probably go with 18's and do 235 or 245 all around.

The 328i stock brakes are great. The 335i brakes have bigger rotors and solid multi piston calipers up front.

I've got the US printed brochure for the 3 series, and it shows the Msport with the fog lights.

Msport is not available with brushed aluminum for the trim. It's a hexagon pattern metal, and I'm not a fan of it.
The German site show the Msport with the brushed aluminum as an option.

Question Fog Lights?

Why would you guys want fog lights? They are the most unnecessary peace of garbage on the German versions. Some fools turn them on so the car looks lower but honestly thats ridiculous and I laugh at them. Using the area for additional cooling at least has a purpose and it helps a lot if you want to modify the car or go on the track. I am glad that (since I live in Cali now and not in Munich anymore) I can get the car without those stupid fog lights.

This morning it was pretty foggy....

Fog lights are hardly a deal breaker for me, but I really do wish I could get Xenon lights without being forced to buy the premium package.

I think BMW knows that some people (me included) just HAVE to have Xenon so we will suck it up and buy the premium package.

M sport suspension ?

Is it different, or improved over the current sportsline suspension? I am wanting the stiffest, sportiest, OEM product that is available.

It seems to be a question that has yet to be answered in anything that I have researched.

Thanks.

As we were told at Geneva, the stiffest and sportiest "OEM" product is the M Performance suspension:

Quote:
Is the M Performance suspension different from the M Sport Suspension? If so, what are the differences?
The M Performance suspension was developed with M engineers on racetracks. It will be 10mm lower than M Sport package suspension. It will be stiffer than M Sport for better handling.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I actually like having additional visibility. But then again, some of don't just live in city streets either. Just sayin'.

I don't have a scanner at home so I'll have to take it with me to work where I've got everything I need.

Hm....I can take picture of it, but I don't know how good it will be.

And remember folks, M Performance suspension does NOT come with
the M Sport pkg. The M Sport pkg comes with the same suspension as the "sport line".

There are a few things that make me think I may not want the M Sport pkg. I like the body pkg., it's pretty cool. But, I also like the standard look of the sport line.

I'll list these things in order of how much it bothers me

M Sport has partial alcantara seats?
I don't like alcantara, at all. If I can get full leather seats with M Sport, then I don't want it.

M Sport does not offer brushed aluminum trim. It has a honey comb pattern that I frankly don't like as a first impression. It reminds me of the similarly patterned trim in the 1 series, and in person it looks like aluminum foil. The only other dash option is dark burl walnut, but that's not for me. I have black poplar in my 135i and it's a very nice finish.

M Sport comes with a cool looking steering wheel, although a good number don't like it. It is smaller in diameter than the sport line wheel.
The sport line is small is diameter, maybe bit smaller than my 135i.
I don't know that I'd like a smaller wheel.

The last thing is the staggered tire sizes. I'd prefer to go 235 or 245.
I like the 18" 5 spoke M sport wheel more than the 19" 7 spoke.
This aspect doesn't really bother me.

It would be great if the M Sport version comes with a power pkg and/or a sportier suspension tuning. As it is though, it's mainly a body kit with limited interior appearance choices.

1. M sport has no alcantara for the states only leather 2. M sport does offer brushed aluminum trim 3. M sport steering wheel looks 1000x better (my opinion) 4.225/255 statgared has been the norm for previous 3 series sport or m sport cars to induce a bit of understeer for saftey reasons 5.M sport does have sportier suspension as a option (which should have been included like the e46 zhp)

Did you mean to say "can't get full leather"?

I read somewhere that the alcantara seats will not be offered on US spec M Sports. Unlike you, I hope BMW will offer it as an alternative to leather. I love the look of the honey comb pattern on the alcanta M Sport seats! I'm over leather! Bring on the alcantara!
