Well the issue with the F30 is that the alternator isn't normally clutched onto the belt when driving the car, it's supposed to be used to implement the "regen braking". So presumably, it has to be larger than normal to charge the battery appropriately, since it won't be engaged while cruising around. Since it's belt driven by the crankshaft, I'm not sure why it's any different than the transmission. Point is, it could be adding more engine drag than people are normally used to, and only doing so while presumably "engine braking."

Just my $.02, I could very well be wrong.

I see what your saying. I suppose that is possible if the alternator on these cars really creates more friction than a typical cars. Of that I have no idea. haha

Thumbs down F30 320D Problems

I have quite an extensive list unfortunately and really beginning to HATE this car. The worst POS I have ever bought.

1. Bonnet refuses to open. Dealer installed new bonnet catch.
2. Fuel flap refuses to close. Dealer installed new arm.
3. Software update bombed out halfway through and needed new radio! Wait time 6 weeks!
4. Aircon/climate control refused to work. Set to 18 degrees celcius we were sweating in the car! Dealer claims there was some gas leakage - interesting!
5. Rattle in the engine bay. Dealer tightened up some loose panels :O
6. Sunroof loose and creaking. Creaking stopped now but needs visit to dealer to check.
7. Engine very rough in the morning on cold starts. I have driven diesel vehicles now for years without this amount of vibration present. Needs visit to dealer.
8. This morning taking a sharp right turn I felt a huge vibration through the left front wheel. Checked if all wheel nuts were tight - they were. So this needs investigation.

We got a 2014 328i in October. We ordered it with the technology package so that it would include BMW Apps, traffic info, etc. It was delivered with a malfunctional TCB so that while the nav would work, the Apps part would not. The dealer tried swapping a TCB from another car and that also did not work. They were stumped, never seen it before. New TCB was ordered from Germany, took a while to get. It was installed two weeks ago, and just three days ago finally started to work due to a series of miscommunications from the dealer to BMWNA.

Unfortunately BMW Apps have now been updated and due to increased security measures, you can no longer condition the car from your phone. Sucks.

The only other little complaint I would have is that the center of our M Sport steering wheel is slightly off. It isn't symmetrical all the way around. It was either mis-shapened or misplaced. This is purely aesthetic and hasn't been a big enough issue to bring up to the dealer.

There are several threads on this slow speed jerk or braking. It is the torque converter locking and unlocking. Happens around 10mph. Car was not made for the urban crawl.

I've got two issues, and of course, the dealer is having trouble replicating them when i take it in. Car is a 2013 320i 6MT

1. Keyfobs have horrible range AND on occasion, the car will not recognize them. I push the start button and get an alert that the key is not found. This happens maybe 3 or 4 times a week, but its pretty intermittent. They key is never in the same pocket as my phone, so its not the phone interference issue. I'll get a memo on the screen saying keys may be defective. Have not been able to catch this message with a photo yet.

2. After I shift into 5th gear, I get a very brief hesitation, almost like a miss. Usually happens at light throttle around 50mph, though I've had it happen at speeds up to 65 in 5th. Just very brief drop in power, almost like there's a dead spot in the throttle, then back to normal.

Anyone else dealt with either of these issues?

Garage List
Have had a few minor issues (still continuing):

1. Driver-side mirror housing chipped, replaced under warranty. Requires adjustment since theres a 1-2mm gap between that and the weatherstripping, causing extra wind noise on the highway at speeds of 110-120km/h.

2. Taillight housing loose, replaced under warranty. Requires adjustment given that its in 2mm more than the outer housing, not flush like the right side now.

3. Hesitation in cold when reversing, would fluctuate 200rpm when reversing on a cold start. Minor but eh.

4. iDrive profile would forget settings, dealer updated Vehicle Order and loaded new software, fine now.

5. Wind noise, but could be due to 1.

6. Passenger door lock pin is higher than other 3 by 2mm, making people want to unlock by pulling up. Also on passenger door, lighting strip has a small gap that lets light thru. Both to be address on next visit to dealer.

Air mass sensor failure.
Injector failure. Needed to replace all four as there was a new spec.

Knock on wood, the only issue I had so far and I have only owned it for a week is with the headlights.

The driver side headlight is way brighter than the passenger side. Just dropped it off this morning at the dealer, hopefully they fix it soon.

Feb will be year for me, only thing is this little squeak noise getting in and out of the car. Also have had the limp mode a few times. Not sure if it's because it's much colder now but I haven't had the limp mode since Aug or so.

I was tempted to order this but didn't and am instead just dropping the $70 on the Y Cable. I hope it's adequate

Well my F30 328d xDrive went into the shop yesterday with a check engine light on my way to work... Didn't notice much change in drivability but notice a small diesel odor, but it's a diesel car. Drop it off at the dealer which was overwhelmed with our -39C weather yesterday in Ottawa. So today they called me and told me that the sensor on the urea tank was defective and that the sensor was part of the urea tank so all of it needed to be replaced. New tank on order, they said that the check engine light might come back on and that they should have the part after the holiday...

So far very please with the car with 2,500km so far and over 800km per fill up

uk sept 2013 f30.

No issues except cannot remember the auto stop/start actually switching the car off! Dont really care tho.

I ordered: hk, sun roof, comfort entry, memory seats, etc & bus nav

The dealer said the car has bluetooth but didn mention it does not do streaming. I didn care much abt apps and a big screen so thot that wud be ok. Oh how was i wrong!! Pro nav is worth the price in the sense any other bus nav etc are useless.

I wud also recommend the hk, its worth it.

Got an aftmrkt pro nav and got it coded by the supplier. Everyth works good except i now have an sos emergency call system error! I think its option s6aca. He is still working on this but any ideas?

2014 335 m-sport, after a few hundred miles the rear brakes started squealing just before stopping. Brought it in and they cleaned them and they have been fine since. Also the fuel door wouldn't close and brought it in again. They found the plastic tether that holds the cap had rotated around and was preventing the door from closing. Wished I found that one myself, felt kinda dumb.

2014 328i, about 3,500 miles. Mine has two minor issues.

First is a rubbing sound in the steering column. After multiple visits the dealer has ordered some new steering components to be installed. We'll see if that fixes it.

The second is a camera malfunction. This is a strange problem because all that happens is that I get an error message. The cameras all work perfectly well. *shrug* The dealer will be replacing the control module.

I do the same thing, people don't give a $@&/ about other peoples cars and ostentatious as these cars are they are more susceptible to damage. I go to great lengths to park far away or look for the best parks possible. My gf understands though given the coin I just paid for it.
