US has 440GC RWD just not with manual tranny. I would've gotten one (435GC/440GC) if they did

The mechanism for bringing a manual BMW wagon to the states already exists. Trust me, we've all wanted to do this, only to find out what it actually requires. Basically, whatever car you pick out, you'll have to buy several versions of it. Then you will have to wait patiently and put up with red tape for possibly years while paying insane amounts of money.

Here's some more detailed info:

A dealer would likely help you facilitate this, but it's not really their call.

Seems cheaper to buy an AT wagon and do a swap?

I wish they still made those. I'd buy a new one

The probelm really is, the E46s are old enough that the rubber and plastic parts are all starting to go, even if you find a well cared for, low mileage one, and the E90s just aren't that good looking to me. I never did warm up to that exterior design, sedan, coupe or wagon, although the wagon and coupe are a bit better than the sedan.

Perhaps this is good timing...I'll be posting my e91 M-Sport Manual RWD Wagon for sale this coming week. Was trying to wait out this damn rain to take good photos, but here are a few for now. PM me if you are interested and we can discuss details.

Thanks
-Brian

No, there were manual and rwd-only versions in the USA/CA. F31 in USA/CA is auto-only and xDrive-only.

They're often referred to as "unicorns".

Yeah, total unicorns. BMW only brought 473 e91 Manual RWD M-Sports to the US over the life of the car haha. I was lucky to find mine.

Anybody can fly to Germany, purchase one and ship it back to the states. Is that hard to do?

You can ship it to the USA/CA, but customs won't let it out of the warehouse.
Yes, it's hard.
