Autoglass seems to get reasonable reviews on their own site and on Trustpilot, for what it's worth.
If they do the job at my home, I'll watch the technician like a hawk from start to finish

Did Autoglass do your replacement? If so, were they any good?
If you search the threads in this forum from 5 years or so ago there was a good one on OEM vrs Non OEM windscreens with the majority of us at the time reckoning our OEM ones were far too easily broken (like you say, hit, chip, then crack) and the non OEM replacements were much more durable... IIRC, the OEM ones were Sekurit and the Non OEM ones we were getting were Pilkingtons... But, TBH, I could have mixed that up...

When mine went, I think it was Autoglass that did it with whatever they used (Pilkingtons, IIRC) and the mobile fitter did a grand job... They use your chassis number to get the correct one for your spec... tint, top tint, camera systems etc..

I thought I would do the same but I then I just left them to it, TBH...

Getting windscreen replaced this week.
Didn't opt for OEM as my insurer wanted £425, based on their replacement policy. Spoke at length with Autoglass and they explained that the non OEM glass they provide is made by the same manufacturer to exactly the same specification as the original. They have already been in touch with BMW to get the right spec for the car from my reg and chassis number so I was persuaded. We shall see

28.Dec 2018....stone chip in wife's Renault Kadjar which was 9 months old with 3000 miles. Chip was right in front of driver's view and could not be repaired.
23.Jan 2019 ....OEM screen fitted after a a wait for order. Had to take it to one of their screen camera calibration centres. No additional cost to me but had to be authorised by insurer. No excess for glass on my policy, so nothing paid.
Next day screen leaking water and blew the alarm system. Autoglass took car to secure storage and later moved to another depot. Courtesy car for us.
Trouble getting another OEM screen, delivery date came and went. Agreed to AEG screen.
18. Feb 2019 ...Collected car with new screen and new trim pieces that were damaged on first instalation. Screen camera calibrated.
1. March 2019...car into Renault for alarm examination. Full alarm system ordered.
6. March 2019 car into Renault for alarm fit. Encountered problems and courtesy car for us.
7. March car collected with complete new alarm system at £538 paid by Autoglass.

Lots of time on the phone, lots of emails, lots of time travelling backwards and forwards to Autoglass depots and Renault, car now has a non-OEM screen. £300 compensation paid to us by Autoglass.

Autoglass explaination for the leak was that the car has three sizes of screen. The OEM one sent was too wide and the wrong one. The correct size was not obtainable in a reasonable time and was on back order.

Overall it was a nightmare but Autoglass treated us well after the leak was found.
The camera calibration stuff is BS. IIRC if the car is off and ignition not powered on there is no requirement for this. There was a thread about it on here last year.

The car has lane assist, speed sign recognition and full beam assist. They say the camera has to be calibrated for these functions and they provide a certificate ??

......and they also said that before they fitted the non OEM screen they needed to do a dry run to ensure the cameras worked though that glass. Once confirmed the screen was bonded in and then calibrated. Sounds a lot of trouble to go to for BS.

I've had my glass cracked and replaced by autoglass... They did a good job but at first they replaced it with a non OEM windscreen. The HUD wasn't in focus... Second time they came around and replaced it again with an OEM glass and all was fine. Didn't have to pay extra for the OEM glass.

Autoglass have replaced the windscreen with non OEM. The technician was excellent - knowledgeable, professional, courteous. Top rubber seal and side trims replaced, pre job and post job diagnostics carried out. All good. Really can't complain.

Have you tried auto rain sensor yet?
They tested mine with a water spray bottle and it worked fine.
The first time it rained- two weeks later - it didn’t work.
It never did.

Im quite surprised that people mention Pilkington as a non-oem glass supplier.
Normally the OEM would be one of the main ones.
Pilkington / Saint Gobain Sekurit / Fuyao

And non-OEM ones made by some unknown Chinese makers.
For HUD, almost guarantee that OEM would be needed as the tolerances for the glass around that area would be extra tight to ensure a clear image.

As for which is strongest between OEM and non-OEM, id be surprised if there was much difference in it. Just the luck on how the stone hits the glass, at what angle etc...

yep, maybe my terminology is wrong
The windscreen they put in today is not BMW badged. Its Fuyao, however, which is the same company which manufactured all the side window glass on my car

Interesting that you say all the side window glass in your car is Fuyao. Fuyao is a chinese company.
Historically Autoglass have had some issues with distortion in Fuyao windscreens.

Hope yours is ok? ...It would be good to get feedback for future reference.

Will keep you posted
I believe that BMW have been using a mix of Pilkington, Fuyao and Saint-Gobain for some years now. Fuyao also manufactures for VAG and JLR from what I can see
EDIT: I don't have HUD but do have speed limit display, which is working

That's my experience too, just a week ago, silly sod left his seat cover behind though.

AG did mine a week ago and the auto rain sensor works better now than before?

Just checked my new windscreen, it's a Fuyao and I've not seen any distortion in the week that it's been in place. As I mentioned in another post, the rain sensor is working better than on the original screen.

Cheers

Thread resurrection. Big crack in my windscreen (image attached) this morning from a large stone I saw coming! It hit towards the top of the screen and the crack grew quite quickly.

I have HUD and reading through this thread it looks like I might need an OEM windscreen. Anyone else with HUD had to do this recently?

I did one a couple of years ago. Can't remember if AG asked me about HUD or if I just told them, but it was straightforward enough.

Just hoping the chip I got this morning doesn't spread, as this thread prompted me to check my policy and I've just noticed my windscreen excess is £195!
