Rear Fog Activate ,Install
2015 435i
We get a lot more fog here lately. I would like to have a rear fog light. I have them (2)on my Cayenne and love the feature. What parts are needed and who can do the "coding"? Thanks Last edited by Chaos236; 01-16-2020 at 10:03 AM.. |

I'm not familiar with the F30, but I did have this done on my E46 when I moved to Europe in order to pass the safety inspections. I can't imagine it would be all that different.
On that car the dealer put a bulb into the appropriate socket(s) in the tail light house (the wiring was already there), installed a new headlight switch with the extra rear fogs button, and recoded the vehicles to make it all work. When I had the work done I'm not totally convinced the dealership did the coding correctly because afterwords I was able to run headlights, highbeams, AND the fogs all at the same time. Something you not supposed to be able to do.

The active rear fog light should be on the same side of the car as the driver - not both active. That would mean the left light for US drivers. Good luck!

I just wish I could add some retina-searing LEDs back there to blind the degenerates that constantly ride my bumper or choose to leave on their high-beams behind me, while within the bright-lit city streets.. Nothing feels better than beating someone at their own, dangerous game of Asshole.. |

if you're near the Cleveland area sometime, I can try to code it for you. I have an '18 430, but it should be the same. We can meet at a Dunkin and you can buy me coffee I have the adapter and BimmerCode. I recently posted the stuff you need to code somewhere else. I will search for it.
found it https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1&postcount=10 You'll have to modify your button. It just pries out, then you need to take a sharp knife and shave off a few bits. I supposed I could just code the one side. Last edited by chowser51; 01-15-2020 at 06:35 PM.. Reason: link |

However, to add to it; if you're using a different RoW switch to retain the rear fog light button, a couple more parameters might needs to be changed to avoid a 'shadow' mismatch error, which a dealer would notice, if checked. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=23962722 |

Fun little mod, should take less than 30 minutes as long as you have BimmerCode or e-sys.

Wish I could source just the button that has the shine through. All I did was put a sticker on mine

I have both the front and rear fog light buttons, on an F87 M2, without either feature being stock. I also repurposed the front fog light button to control the side markers, on cue. So both buttons are functional. Front Fog Light Mod https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1646587 |

This is not true. I have asked friends and relatives in both the UK and Europe. Both lights are active when rear fog lamps are used on BMWs.

Apparently there has been some updating since the 70s. United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regulation 48 states a vehicle can be equipped with two or just one of the rear fog lights, but if there is just one, it must be on the driver’s side.

Does that mean they just turn on whatever color the turn signal is? Should have specified I have an F32 but I don't think those have rear fogs either in LCI.

If you had the Euro taillights, over there it's mandatory that the turn signal be the color amber and have an independent light array from the rear fog lights and turn signal. With the ECE-spec taillights, rear fog lights, would be in a different location and independent from the (amber) turn signals, unlike the US version. See below. With either region of taillights, you can also repurpose the rear fog light button to toggle-control the reverse lights instead. I had mines set to control the reverse lights but one day when a cab driver was tailgating me, I switch them on and almost made him run off the road, since he briefly assumed I was reversing, at over 50mph. I didn't want to be responsible for killing another person (long story), so I revered them back to red, rear fogs lights. If you need more detail clarification, PM me. |

That's getting pretty murky, but as I was born and raised in London, I couldn't call that pea-soup. I've seen it where you would not have been able to see the end of that white line on the right of the picture. I recall walking home from school with a handkerchief over my nose and mouth and it was black from the smog when I got in the house.
