hmm... 335d wouldn't start this morning
I went to take the dog for a walk this morning... got in the car... and it wouldn't start.
it turned over, misfire at a lumpy (600rpm) Isle for a few seconds then died.... repeat 5/6 times... abandoned idea and went in wife's car. came back from walking dog and tried again... same thing. no response when touching the throttle and a smell of unburnt diesel. waiting for BMW assist to come & investigate. in the meantime, it seems to have cleared itself... any ideas / thoughts? |

The only time I had anything like this was about 10 years ago with my two-year old Boxster S.
I'd driven down to Wolverhampton, stopped overnight at the hotel and then, the next morning, the car took ages to start on cranking over... and it ran like a right old dog for a while until it cleared, smoking and sounding really rough... Once it cleared I never had the problem again and so the only thing I could think of that might have caused it was filling up with some dodgy fuel the day before (when I used a station I'd never used before) and I was dragging some crap through...

I've had two previous diesels (E46 and E90) with a similar(ish) issues but never actually failed to start, more the lumpy idle.
It happened with it was cold. Both those turned out to be issues with the glow plugs- one time the actual glow plugs and the other time the glow plug control unit. Hopefully nothing too serious.

There were no faults showing on the OBC, I used the teleservices function in the car Bmw assist man came out, ran diagnostics and it said there was a stuck valve in the motor. He has had a play, followed the fault tree analysis and says it is fine now...

Could this perhaps explain why I've been feeling the occasional stutter / misfire symptom on a trailing throttle and when gassing it hard from a trailing throttle?
