Wuhan Coronavirus - The second wave (Moderator: Non-political discussion only)
Well it's not going to be as full of info as the original, but a second thread for a second wave?

Suggestions of cover ups and government lies in just the second post does not give me much hope of thread longevity!

Comrade Corbyn and Abacus would have had this all fixed by now.

This thread won’t last as politics is now banned across the whole forum.
That means no one can discuss the global pandemic which affects every single member of this forum, as it will be impossible to exclude politics. |

We're certainly in a second wave - I've been horrified at the behaviour of a lot of people (young and old), the lack of social distancing, etc. One very disappointing thing to me has been the lack of mask wearing in shops, etc. Before Monday, I reckon 10% at most wearing masks in supermarkets (bear in mind I'm in Wales, masks only mandatory in shops from Monday, amazingly enough) I've been off this week, but I can say that our ICU is back to it's 'regular' (pre-covid) footprint, though a couple of departments along the corridor have been relocated so that we can start running an 'ICU-2' on 48 hours notice - basically, when numbers rise, we'll prep the area ready to go. All the beds, equipment, stock consumables, etc are there, it literally needs 'lights on' and ready to go. Our ICU manager and his deputy are both very good. They (like everywhere else) got a bit caught out last time, that's not happening to that department again, unless it goes insane. Apart from that, it's been relatively normal last week. I had my 'potentially exposed' episode and wait for test and results (which was fun), but both myself and every other staff member on that ward came back negative. In flu jab news, the NHS staff campaign starts on (I think) 28th September. (this is remembering from my emails last week). I always get my jab as soon as I can, and this year the NHS are targeting a 75% vaccination rate, both for staff, nursing homes, elderly and vulnerable people. If we can manage that, then we can largely eradicate flu season. It may be a surprise to the general public, but we usually have quite a poor takeup of flu jab amongst NHS staff - our regular target is only 58% Anyway. Hope you're all well. I certainly picked a nice week to take off from work - went over to Anglesey with my wife and 2 friends (they are our 'bubble'). Myself and him got a couple of days walking in on the Wales coastal path (another 28 miles ticked off that), the ladies taxied us around, and then went cycling. |

Her indoors went to get petrol a couple of days ago at the local Shell garage. On returning she told me that there were eight people (including her) in the shop of whom 5 weren't wearing masks, despite there being a large sign at the door saying masks must be worn. I fear that a large portion of UK society is just too dim to deal with coronavirus so it will continue taking its toll until science provides a solution.

Was almost going to put this in the above mentioned thread but I think I have gone mad...
I am sure I heard Dido Harding saying " NO one could have predicted a increase in testing for September" followed by Matt Hancock saying there's plenty of Tests and don't believe everything the Media tells you?? Maybe it's me... |

I went to my local barbers for a haircut last week, 10 people including myself in a not the biggest shop and only me wearing a mask. Walked out and went to where I had my first post lockdown haircut, sanitiser at the door and proper distancing going on, so that's me changing barbers. Why are people so stupid/selfish/insert chosen word?

I'd go for 'complacent'. There's something in human nature that whispers in your ear "it'll never happen to me", which is one of the reasons why young men end up wrapped around trees in their cars. Too many people have an 'I want' mentality with no thought to the consequences.
All IMHO of course, I'm old and grumpy.

Your experience seems to show why... Back to what people have said above really...zero enforcement. If that Barber shop thought he was going to get 5k fine for allowing customers to sit like that it would not happen ..plus customer fines.. |

One word in my age category...complacency. 18-30 year olds have never been told you can't do this or do that, cue massive gatherings when the restrictions were eased.
Local lockdown in Birmingham seems to have had no effect, masks still hit and miss and social distancing for all seems to be the same. Make it law and hand out fines, some people just don't look at the bigger picture. I've isolated and restricted my travel to just essential journeys for the last 6 months bar a week away with the family when we were allowed - we stayed away from any busy areas on the NC500 and had masks throughout. Lack of people taking responsibility for themselves and others. Armaan |
