"Improved" sound? Exhaust vs Intake
I had my mind made up to spring for the MPE but recently started reading about the agreeable nature of the sound produced from a simple change in the intake for 1/3 the cost of an MPE!
Anyone care to weigh in on the differences or not a fair comparison? |

Intake noise is totally different from exhaust noise. Not even comparable. Both sound great, and you're right, Intake is drastically cheaper and easier than exhaust.

The intake just gives more turbo noise which is nice. The MPE is way to quiet imo, had it and then sold it. I say exhaust over intake, in most cases. But in this case i'd choose the intake

Purely personal opinion, I have MPE on a 2013 328i and I'm really struggling with it. The 4-cyl noise coming from the the front doesn't seem to fit the MPE exhaust note. Without ASD the car sounds like any other 4-cyl with a "sport muffler". Apparently it actually sounds better from outside, but inside it doesn't sound like exhaust and engine "belong" together.
A friend's 2014 328i with ASD sound way better. I'd do ASD retrofit, but I have a bimmertech amp that doesn't play nice with ASD. |

The sound is totally different.. An Intake will give you the turbo spool sound, while exhaust gives you that deeper more exotic exhaust tone.
Maybe good compromise would be intake with a catless downpipes and stock exhaust? Mike |

Yet, intrigued on this discussion about an intake meeting my needs. Would any brand suffice? |

Would appear this route would equate to the cost of an MPE. What would be the benefits in this scenario?
