I have a square set of 400M wheels on my GT. I really like the wheels, but I want to put a staggered set of tires on. Going to the 8.5" isn't enough, but I found this wheel on the forum:

BMW 7848388. It's a 400M in 9.0" with 42mm offset (IIRC).

Anyone know if this is a Euro only wheel? I tried searching and didn't come up with anything in the US for used or remanufactured, just foreign (to the US) links.

Check out tiresize.com. It's got a great calculator with all the info you'll ever need. Also will tell you the percentage difference between front and rear. You'll want to stay within 1%

Thanks for the reminder on the tires. However, I'm asking whether or not anyone here in the US has gotten a hold of a 9.0" 400M wheel. I have seen the entire set (8" front like US) with 27.0" (F34 spec) tires mounted on them.... but for sale in Europe. That's a bit further than I'm willing to ship for a pair of rear wheels.

I haven't come up with anything that says they're available in the US. I suppose I can ask a local dealership to search by part #, but I think if they were available they would pop up on ebay and/or as remanufactured like the 8" and 8.5" versions.

Staggered is a bad idea with xDrive anyway, and all US GTs are xDrive.

But many do come equipped with the upgraded 598M wheels which are staggered also. I really really really wish I my 328 msport had 598m instead of 400m.

That's another bad idea. Larger rims with shorter sidewall tires are far more prone to pothole damage than smaller rims with more rubber between them and the road. Just like high heel shoes what looks best seldom is what works best.

I wasn't asking for you to troll my thread with your opinions that you freely disperse over quite a few threads.
I simply wanted to know if a domestic source for the 9.0" 400m wheel and when I found it I added it to my thread.

It depends on the year and trim level. I have 225/55-17 all around, intentionally. That was the base model offering in 2015, and knowing how susceptible large rims with low profile tires are to pothole damage I didn't want larger than 17s or lower than 55 series profile. Besides, larger rims with lower profile tires also ride harder and don't handle any better.

Would I be able to run something like you then?

I totally agree with the ride & up here in Canada, the roads are brutal.

I was thinking dropping down to 18 inch.

No reason why not, you just have to be sure the wheels fit. With 18s your tire size should be 225/50.

You can run staggered with xdrive and our GT's; just need to make sure your overall tire diameters between the front and rears stays under 1%. The folks that are rwd, dont have to adhere to such strict tire options. I am running 19x8.5 and 19x9.5, no issues here with xdrive.

While this is true, going up to 19's isnt as big deal on the GT. 19" fitment on a GT offers the same sidewall buffer as a standard 3 series in 18". GT's having an extra inch in overall diameter vs the other 3 series has its benefits.

My staggered 19's dont feel any different, as far as comfort goes, than my oem square 18's with run flats. Turn in feels better, more crisp/direct though. That is also due to the nature of my 19's being summers/non runflats and the oem 18s are all seasons. I am sure that your 17's will be more comfortable as far as daily driving/cruising is concerned though, all else equal though. Big enough pothole will still destroy a tire/wheel

I hit a pothole so hard that it broke the spring on my 07 Altima. My 17 inch rim and tire were unscathed. When I picked up my car the F&I manager tried to sell me wheel and tire insurance. He even had a blown tire on a bent rim in his office to make his point. It was a 20 inch. I didn't get the insurance, having done my research before buying the car, which along with previous experience had sold me on staying with 17s and putting the three grand that they wanted for the insurance to better use.
