You need to differ between a completely full partition and only partial full with already a bootanimation installed.

When you have about 10mb free space, you likely have already a bootanimation with about 10-15mb installed.
So installing a bootanimation with below 20mb free space should be no issue as the old file will be overwritten.

Without root access the folder does appear empty although it is not.

if you want to check that folder content you need to root your unit, install total commander, set it to "root everywhere" at settings then you can see the content of where the bootanimation is.
You also can delete the bootanimation then if you want to get sure you have enough space.

If you don`t use preinstalled splash.img files you can also delete mylogo.zip which has the factory settings bootlogos , this also does free you additional ~2MB.

I can't install new boot logo instead default, android doesn't want accept flashdrive with bootlogo, factory_settings was accepted, i did video

OTA 2.1.0, in bmwclub.ru some peoples has same issue with bootlogo

Some people had issues when USB stick was formatted under MacOS. It says it's MS-DOS FAT32 file format, but Mac does something with FAT32 that Android doesn't like. If you can try formatting your USB stick under Windows (different machine or vm).

Also the button you where trying to press where factory splash images are, is only for importing mylogo.zip files containing multiple splash images.

I just got my unit few days ago but i see that the trip computer in the idrive is not showing any information and the clock is impossible to set, you set it and it reverts back to --:--

I tried upload your logo fo HD, total size of your 2 file around 12mb, but according disk info i have 10.9mb right now in /mnt/vendor/persist, that true i format my flash in macos but factory_settings.xml were imported good thru this flash drive, i think now not enough space for your boot logo

I update, what was the String before "null" appeard, and which update did you have installed ?

Ok, so I did a small trick and didn't reduce quality nor the frame rate. Now the animation is just over 8MB. Use the same link and let me know if that works for you.

Actually this string located in factory config file and it's a plain text. HU not queried MCU for the version. Seems to be you're deleted your factory config file for some reason during update and that's why it's shows null - MCU ver field is just empty. So don't be scared, it's just a text string.

Unfortunately thats not true, the MCU string is read out from hardware, there is no string at factory_config.xml for the MCU.

Kri, HU shows MCU version information from a text string located between <ver> and </ver> tags in factory config. You can place there for example <ver>Kri was here</ver> and you'll see a miracle.
MCU upgrade procedure updates this string during process.

I think you are mixing strings locations
The MCU String is at System-Info and read by MCU

The string you are talking about is at Factory -> configuration import

I did nothing. Just download _the file rar from the website. I copy into my USB drive the plug into my head unit and then install
