Connected Drive subscription?

I don't know how much, is it worth it?

Really just depends on your needs. https://connecteddrive.bmwusa.com/ap...%20%2Bdrive-.-.

Entirely up to you if you need the services. Peoples needs vary.

I renewed my Connected Drive subscription for a few reasons:
- It allows me to enter a destination on my iPhone and then transfer it to the car before my trip.
- It also allows Online search for navigation while driving. It’s one of those things that aren’t needed until they’re needed.
- It provides real-time traffic information for the navigation system.
It’s nice to have the Remote Services and BMW Assist, but thankfully I haven’t needed them yet.

This is a really "per person" decision. I liked the real time traffic and the send destination to the car, but my usage wasn't enough to renew it.

You can link your phone to the car with bluetooth, and just open google maps or android auto and call up a destination. The phone audio will then speak out the turns through the car audio which works fine for me, and I already pay for the phone plan.

Only downfall with the above is you don't see the route on the NAV or through the HUD, but again, not enough of a show stopper for me to renew.

I use RTTI only. And also I like to use built-in navi, however a lot of people prefer their phones or carplay.
My RTTI costs $50/year.

Love that I can send destinations from my phone to my nav without searching in the car. Wish I could send an actual route though.

Real Time Traffic has saved me at least 5+ hours stuck in accidents at various times. That pays for it, IMO.

I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep the car after the expiration date. If I do,I’ll probably pay for the map updates every couple of years.

This was the only feature I ever used. Sadly it's in the second level of the pricing "tiers" so I did not renew my subscription.

If it was included in the lowest tier I would have renewed the subscription, but as is, the price wasn't worth it to me for the few times a year I actually used it.

Unfortunately my wife's 2014 BMW 320 doesn't have any function with this connected drive. My 2017 shows some features. But, I'm not sure if I'll renew this thing. My navigation through Waze seems better and smarter than this one offered with connected drive.

It is a part of remote services, but you need "Connected Plus" package to get the function. Remote services under the base-level "Connect" package offers very little other than locking/unlocking the car, and the location of the vehicle if stolen.

The base level does mention being able to pick specific points of interest, but it isn't until you get to the mid-tier level where is specifically states being able to send routes to the car. Since they are very specific to separate an established POI vs a route, I'm assuming you couldn't send it a non-POI address in the base tier.

The POI's on the maps are pretty worthless for me since they don't even have some of the major businesses or museums in my area.

that sucks.... I use to send destination address through the same connected app where you do remote unlock/ lock ... Isn't that the same

I'm really missing the "send navigation destination" to car function with the app, and to a lesser extent the RTTI. But $150/year for this seems like too much. I'd almost rather pay once for the Android Auto module than a recurring subscription because at least then it will provide a text interface. But those are pricey too.

that's why I'm procrastinating about it. I have my Android phone mounted on the windshield between the driver door and steering wheel i do most of my navigation in there. I just got the BMW navigation just because it comes with the better / bigger LCD screen. And I like how there a map of the surrounding when you are not familiar with the are and don't want to bother looking on the phone.

If you're happy with that setup, I wouldn't waste the money. Google maps gives you all the traffic info, and you can speak out destinations. Every tried that through the NAV? Yeh, don't bother.

Too bad that the NAV doesn't support Android Auto. Most manufacturers go that route so they don't need to spend money developing their NAV option.

On my 18, the voice commands for destinations work very well. Unlike my wifeís Acura. Which requires 5 different commands, and it still doesnít work.

They must have fixed something between '16 and '18. There has been many times that it wants me to be in Alaska or some other really out of the way location!

The same app is used, but by looking at the tiers side-by-side, it seems functionality differs based on subscription. I have a feeling the app is really nothing but a portal to the ConnectedDrive environment, so they can control features on the back end without having to alter the app software.

Like others have said, if you happy with a no-cost solution now, stick with it.

I rarely use navigation on my phone or in the car. If I'm going somewhere local and happen to need navigation to get me there, I'll just put it on my phone and listen to the directions over the blue-tooth...and hope I don't miss something. On a long-ish road trip I'll use the car's navigation. The interface is pretty good and I don't mind entering the address since I don't do it very often and it takes very little time.

Anyone have information how often you get OTA or manual map updates from BMW? Every year?

Twice a year. For example, 2020-1 and 2020-2. Now it is 2021-1 the most recent.
