I went from an 1998 e36 m3 to a '12 335i sport no mods. Couldn't be happier and my m3 was considered a desirable M car as well. I love having electronics in my new car LOL. The cost to keep my M3 alive and don't get me start about the parts... are in my past, now that I have a warranty!
Good luck with your decision. |

You will likely not be happy with the 435i.
You can't afford to keep your current M3. You can not afford to buy the next gen M3. You will learn to live with the 435i, and eventually return here and pretend-post that it's a great car. No one else will care. Now that I'm done being a dick, I will tell you that the 435i is a very capable car, as long as you don't compare it to your M3, or any previous generation BMW. Just accept it for what it is. A nice car. Superman combo is very nice in person. No pictures capture the colors properly. It has a different presence in person and always got compliments from total strangers. Congrats! |

That's a bit harsh, no? Ever consider that he might actually consider the 435i a great car, and won't be "pretending" about anything. An ///M car, like any other fairly hard to reach car for the masses, is like a supermodel, celebrity goddess, or that really hot ass chick that you see in the mall...........those that can't or haven't had her, want her (..and couldn't imagine ever giving her up once they've got their hands on her)! Those who've had her and given her up, could really care less.

LOL, I love people like "NOOO " "you cant get rid of your M3 its an ICON", "It can never be beat agian!" "Its an m3, DONT LET GO"...That shit is old fellers!!!! The new guy is hitting the block pretty soon, and its gonna blow the e9x out of the water. Fact of the matter is old tech can never beat new tech...I used to say I would never drive an unnaturally aspirated car, now its the only kind of car I would consider.
OP The 435 is pretty awesome...make sure you get DHP! And never look back...I assure you for daily driving you will have much more fun jerking your 35 around town, thats one thing these cars certainly do better than the m3s. Once you see the f82 the e9x will look like ehhh. |

Sold my 2011 e92 m3 DCT which was fully loaded for a f30 335x-drive with every single option except PPK
After a Jb4 and downpipe... I do not miss the m3 and now the winter won't bother me anymore (and it's easier with baby seats)! The DCT and V8 sound are great... But real-life driving enjoyment in an urban environment is better with a torque monster like the f30 335 stage2 Oh and by the way, I had a 2009 e92 335x with all options which was traded in for the m3. At the time I felt the handling and general feel of the car to be much better, but coming into the f platform I am not disappointed. Honestly, I missed having torque... New M3 would be perfect for me but BMW is too dumb to offer X-drive as an option (they would sell tons more in northern climates). I am waiting now for the next c63 amg which should get awd and twin turbo v8.

Ex E92 M3 owner here. You won't miss the power, but you will miss the sound of the S65, and the inherent handling improvement of a M3 chassis.

There is no way I would get rid of the M3. Hydraulic steering, 8 cylinder engine, and those sudtle, clean, classy lines. My dealership had a Dinan event, and Steve Dinan said that the E90/92 M3 are the best engines BMW has ever built.

That it is/may be, but that doesn't matter when you become bored with a car. No amount of bespoke goodness will keep you from clamoring for something else (..kinda like the guy with a nice set of tits & ass by his side looking at YOUR nice set of tits & ass by your side wishing she could be his personal jockey). |

I think you'll be happy with the 435i.. It's not an M3 but it offers 95% of what the M3 does.
My favorite BMW was my Z4MC, but when it was time to move on I decided to sell it. It was a great raw car and had even less electronics and was more driver oriented than the E9X M3. When I decided to sell I starting looking for a used low mileage E90 M3, but when I test drove the M3 (manual & DCT) it did not give me the same thrill the Z4MC did (yes that's how good the Z4MC was despite being outdated). In the end I decided to get a 335i M Sport and enjoy it for what it can offer. I say go for it. You've had the M3 since 2008 so a new well-spec'ed 435i will be good IMO.

The interior of the F30 leaves quite a bit to be desired in the quality department... Especially with the leathers, I was so close to switching but just couldnt. The M3 feels like im sitting in my favorite armchair, the F30 felt like I plopped myself into a stark rather typical German sedan.

If the M was a little newer, I'd have said that you should hold onto it. Having said that, Jozi will be filled with new 435i's within months, and the car will lose some of the appeal.
Personally, I would go for the new car... But deep down I would know it's just a stepping stone to the F8x. |
