That's pretty ridiculous. I've gotten 60-70k on every set of brakes on both my BMWs (3 or 4 sets across both cars).
I guess just wait until they're actually 'worn out'.... I bet it'll take a lot more than 3k. |

Mine have 26K miles on them and the computer is indicating that the fronts need replacing in 4K, the oil in 5K, and the rears in 6K. When I get close to 30K, I'll ask my SA about doing all of it at once rather than make 3 separate trips.

My computer said the same stuff at 25,000 miles. That I only had 1-2000 left on the front and rear pads. Of course I took it in for service and they reset the computer to 15,000 more miles and told me the pads were fine.

Does anybody LOOK at the pads for wear before posting on the forums that the computer says their brake pads need replacing and needs advice??

Could also just be your driving habits combined with the more aggressive M sport compound. I'm willing to bet the standard 3 Brake pads will go much longer.
I'm currently at 18k (mostly highway) on my Msport and I think it's telling me 6,000 miles. My TL had a very aggressive OEM pad compound. My fronts were down to the backing plates in 20k miles, the non-OEM pad's I replaced them with (much less aggressive) lasted over 80k with my same driving habits. Either way, free maintenance, swap em out as many times as you can before 50k.

The computer is merely guessing pad longevity based on driving habits. It's not actually measuring pad thickness. The only legitimate indicator is the actual sensor that indicates a replacement is required. Once the pads wear beyond the threshold the "sensor" circuit opens.
