Anyone driven one? Opinions?

I have a 430 convertible, if your buying new go for m sport plus and convertible comfort pack. Isn’t a sports car and isn’t a replacement for a 2 seater convertible. I really like mine and part of me wishes I went for a 440 but not unhappy with the 30d engine.

Yeh I drove my dads mates in France last year, it’s why i ended up buying a new car this year! I ended up with a 335dx but because I have a 10 week old son so a 440i convertible is a no no right now. I loved it, it sounded awesome and went great. Bit small for me though but i prefer bigger cars, 440i gran coupe would be my first choice I think but that’s just personal preference.

We have a 7 month old and she fits in although if we are going away and need overnight stuff for our little girl we would take my wife’s Countryman.

It should get easier as she gets older!

Yeh it can be done but I really didn’t want the hassle. I remember my dad had an MGB when I was a boy and how he hung on to it until I was hunched in the back and could barely fit in it haha he wasn’t happy when he finally had to let it go..

When my daughter turned 16, I gave her a clue that she may need to start thinking about flying the nest.

I bought a Jaguar XJS.

When I decided I didnt want to be married any more, I gave the wife a few clues.

I bought a Porsche and fucked the secretary

Worked a treat on both counts.


Back to the topic. I drove a 440i F33 and loved it. Quite rigid for such a large convertible and didnt seem to have many compromises. What are your requirements?

I took one for a test drive a while ago and thought it was very nice indeed. Like all 3/4 series the perception of the car is greatly influenced by the options.
You are very aware of the weight of the car which does dampen the driving dynamics somewhat but that was the only major detractor in my view.

The feelings towards the convertible seem mainly positive. Trouble is there aren't any remotely near me. There are two M4 convertibles close by as AUCs one in white and a delivery mileage Yas Marina blue one with CP. Maybe I should try driving the white M4. I just like the sound of a convertible with a hard top...

If you drive an M4 convertible I think you'll end up buying one!

I struggled to find a convertible in the engine I wanted to test drive, try one with as close engine performance and go from there.

I think an M4 would be over doing it and might be disappointed going backwards in power...

I have had pre lci model for almost 2 years now and yes I like it a lot. Steering is not so sharp like it was on my previous E93 (330d) car but that's only negative thing really. In all other areas it is so much better so it keeps me smiling when driving. Just cant wait warmer weather to get roof down and enjoying the MPPSK sound

That's blown it. I drove the M4 convertible today. Has a huge spec and is only 10 months old with 4000 miles and a service pack, with an offer price less than any of the cars on Autotrader. Not the colour choice I would have chosen but nice enough. Mineral white, black interior.

Im not sure the hardcore M really suits the vert, i think in many ways a more comfortable 440i with the mppsk would be the way to go, sounds better than the m4 too. The 430d lacks the noise which is an absolute essential to me in a convertible.

10 grand cheaper too.

Have to agree with the above...the 430d has the pace but lacking the flat 6 noise. After driving the M4 I think it might leave you disappointed.

I agree to an extent. All the reviews say that the M4 vert is much more softly set up than the M4. It was remarkably supple on adaptive plus 19" wheels and Conti Sport Contact tyres. The resale values on the M4 far outstrip the 440i. Perhaps. There is probably something a bit more special about owning an M-car.

Coded noise doesnt really work with no roof when you can clearly hear the engine & exhaust....

True, depends if thats worth 10k to you. Personally if i were buying an m4 id go with the coupe, its just a superior car.

Yeah. Absolutely get that. I'm not really a fan of a diesel in a vert. I'm trying to be a little bit practical in that the roof really won't be down a lot in Northern Ireland due to the piss poor weather.

I think your be surprised it’s such a smooth engine the 30d, my previous car was a Boxster and although I miss the noise the 430 is a nice place to be. I have a dtuk tuning box on mine and certainly has some pace.

If you can afford the m4 go for one, if we hadn’t of just had our first born and loosing one salary I’d certainly have one!
