It’s just off the coast south of Bognor Regis at the moment. It’s actually closer to me now, than when I collect from the dealer

It's officially landed in the UK

I'm still holding out for collection next weekend, but communication from my dealer is quite frankly shocking. He's not once contacted me with any updates, and rarely replies to email. Even getting him on the phone is tricky sometimes.

Not sure you can realastically expect the dealer to update you on a weekly basis. My mate is at the local Jag dealership and they had 74 cars to hand over on the 1st September so it's not practical to email every customer about the cars' progress along the track.

I would want to be notified if the car was expected to be late and / or when it arrives but I wouldn't expect anything else to be fair.

Fair enough. I guess my expectations may have been a bit high.

Regardless of regular updates, the overall standard of communication hasn't been great.

It's never awesome TBF. I feel you have to chase rather than be told. Bit of a volume game at a BMW dealer.

If you go to the BMW Configurator page, you can start a live chat with a Genius there.

I've found that it's getting harder to get information from them. Not so much that they're not helpful, but I think they have had some information removed from their screens. You don't appear to be able to get the status codes anymore, but they still appear to have the status description, so you have to work back from that. You can however ring BMW customer services, and they can still see the status codes.

I still don't understand why BMW UK doesn't have an online status tracker
Our American cousins have had it for years, and it's recently become available to the Germans, French and Italians.

I feel like I know this car, its part of my soul, my being.
I will only feel true happiness once I see that first shiny pic.

No one else does these threads any more?

Thanks Ian, as normal us brits pay the most and are respected the least.
My car went into build yesterday and the three “alternatives” I was supposed to get all disappeared. I now have a delivery date of October 8th. This will be after ordering my car on 30th April. This will be my last BMW, my wife gets better service from her Kia dealer.
Hopefully your car will leave tomorrow.

It had a variety of engine modifications over the years, and had a very nice 2.7L conversion for a few years (stroked to 2.7L, Big valve head, Schrick cam etc). In about October 2002, I took it off the road to start fitting an E36 M3 Evo engine and 6 speed box from a 1998 M3. This took about 5 months to complete, and it's been pretty much like that ever since. It's also got some big old brakes from a 993 Twin Turbo Porsche (Big Reds, although mine are black).

It's a bit of a garage queen these days, but has been to the Nurburgring a couple of times, and quite a variety of track days. It's also featured in a number of magazine articles over the years.

Here's a few pics.

Loving the E30 restoration/upgrade - superb looking car

Collection pencilled in for next Thursday. It could arrive sooner, but I probably can't get there until Thursday anyway. It's still at the fucking docks as far as I can tell

I do have the registration number though, so small steps.

Mine has just gone to 5200 stage, so if it maintains the same speed as yours I will have another 4 weeks before delivery, that's crap

It depends when it gets to the port really. Mine only just missed a ship, so had to wait a week for the next one. If your dealer is further north, it may go to Immingham, which has more frequent sailings. I’m not sure why it’s taken so long to get moving this end though. Just volume I guess.

To be honest, mine is only one week later than originally specified, so I don’t really have anything to gripe about.

When did they say yours would arrive?

That's still entirely possible. Build is only 2 or 3 days, it's just how quickly they can get it transported after that. Assuming a Southampton sailing, the next ship (Arabian Breeze) is Friday the 21st, so gives them an entire week to build and get to the port at Cuxhaven.

Even if they leave it at Southampton docks for a week (like mine), it could still arrive in week 40. Probably later in the week though.

That would be okay, I have a provisional handover on the 6th, which needs to happen as the tracker and camera are going in on the 8th. I have already put this back by a week so fingers crossed it gets here.
Enjoy your handover next week and thanks for the reassuring replies to my posts.

It's hard to get exact details from the Genius, but it looks like my car is currently 'with the carrier', so I assume it's either 9650 or 9660. More likely 9650, and will go 9660 on Monday, and probably arrive the same day. If it is 9660, it could even arrive today. So close now.

Whatever happens, I can't really collect until Thursday anyway
