Shady dealers making CCA rebates invalid

I've now witnessed two instances of dealers creating a situation invalidating the customer's CCA rebate without the customer knowing it. It happened with me in May and just happened to my friend this past weekend.

In both instances the dealer came with an incredible deal, saving thousands on the car off MSRP.

In both cases, we thought we had received the rebates on top of the discount included the Lease Credit ($2000) and Ultimate Trip ($1000). In my case I also received loyalty ($1000).

NONE of these rebates are incompatible with the BMW CCA rebate.

Lo and behold, after 6 weeks my application to CCA was rejected because I had a "Corporate Discount" applied to my deal. I never gave any indication that I was purchasing in the corporate program but Michelle Maldonado at BMW CCA told me the dealer would have to 'back out' the code in their system. After back and forth with the dealer and an offer from the dealer for $500 in BMW Bucks (for accessories, etc), I contacted BMWNA to intervene. I just did not want to deal with the dealer anymore. Now, BMWNA told me that the dealer was going to send me a check for $500 from the service manager(!). I'm still waiting for the check.

Fast forward to this past weekend, and I helped my friend buy a 440xi GC at ANOTHER dealer. This is his first BMW and I helped him get a great deal. I also told him about the BMWCCA and while in with finance asked specifically whether any of the rebates he was receiving (lease credit and trip) would conflict with CCA. We were assured they would not. Yesterday, they told him 'to make the numbers work' they had to apply another rebate disqualifying him for the CCA rebate, but they offered him $250 in BMW Bucks. A bait-and-switch if I ever saw one; followed by them trying to cover their tracks. I told him to fight like hell and contact BMWNA.

BMWNA needs to crack down on these shady dealer practices. In my case, they didn't even tell me they applied additional rebates to the deal and assumed I'd never find out. It's also shady that they're not being transparent in how the deal is structured and it is evident that there is more money on the table than is readily apparent in any information widely available. For instance, what is the $500 extra that the dealers are applying to deals? Is it the corporate rebate?

The bottom line is to be wary and question everything when you're buying a car. That is unless $500 doesn't mean much to you.

No debate... It says ": Vehicles retailed with an Corporate Fleet Discount prior to 7/5/18 cannot be combined with the BMW CCA rebate program." Further, his purchase date was 8/25.

In neither case did we ask for the Corporate Fleet Discount. In my case I was told that was applied regardless. I did not ask for it. My point is that the dealers applied discounts/rebates that invalidate the CCA rebate without the customer knowing.

This might be part of the reason that BMW is revamping the corporate discount program ( and pulling the plug on the corporate discount through the rest of the year unless someone already has a locked credit app on an ordered car.

The Costco discount is a Type-G fleet discount, that's probably the one they used. Who said to your friend that the last rebate would disqualify CCA? If it was the dealer then I would be wary. My CA didnt know about the recent CCA change to exclusions until I showed him the page.

That said, I took delivery 8/25 and submitted my CCA rebate app the same day. They received it and it's still processing as of now.

It was the finance woman. But when he signed the papers there were no issues. It was the next day, presumably when the dealer was trying to clean up their mess, that they applied some additional rebate and informed him he wouldn't be eligible for the CCA rebate (because I specifically asked the woman when he signed the papers on the deal and she confirmed there was no conflict).

I would ask for the exact rebate they used and where it came from. Most likely the dealer is spewing some incorrect tribal knowledge.
