Get an F30 or wait for G20 ?
I'm looking to get back to BMW after a two year hiatus, I know this is the last F30 cars so I'm wondering should I push for a good deal on a top tier 340 or wait and get a G20 which we don't know much about yet.
Thanks

I can't imagine the G20 being so revolutionary that I wouldn't be just as happy with a top tier current-gen 340 that I got a good deal on.
Just my $0.02

+1 I agree. Judging by the leaks and other features the newer models nothing groundbreaking is getting in there. I think they future proofed the F30 for quite a while.

This, and you'd also be getting a first-gen G20, which could potentially have more issues than a late-model F30, where most of the initial design flaws and imperfections have been mitigated.

Agree with all this. Plus, the G20 so far to me looks kinda ugly.

if money is no object and you are leasing I would go G20, if buying I would get a nice deal on F30

how about a demo 530i, low miles would be about the same as a new 3 series

First year of new gens have their issues normaly. Maybe take an f30 for 2-3 years and see if the next G is the real thing

F30 is dated. Not only that the 2012/2013 models are so cheap they are beginning to be riced out. I'd wait

A loaded-up 340i would be a good choice if buying. I wouldn't go for the lesser F30s.
There are certainly unknowns about the G20. I think the G20 is a bit larger car, not to my liking. Tough call but the 340i is a pretty nice machine, and, contrary to some, I don't see the 340 as dated at all.

If you go for a 340i/440i with MPPSK now, you'll get a 355bhp/500Nm car with a great sounding exhaust, which will probably match the forthcoming M340i on performance. Discounts should be v good of course
The new model will probably have early issues, will be longer/wider (which is a downside for me) and won't offer good discounts for at least 12 months

Waiting a year for G20 to get all the early problems addressed is a prudent idea, unless the goal is to have the latest and greatest.

The F30 is aging very well, looks very modern compared to the new Infinitis, mercs and audis. I cant say the same for the driving dynamics its lagging behind a bit, and the interior as well. Its very minimalist (something i actually like lol). If you don't care about the dymanics/interior I say push for a nice 6-10% off on a 340. If you do care about interiors wait for the G20. btw initial quality on alot these new BMW are always great, they have been working on the G20 for about 3 years now, I think major issues will be ironed out.

The reason to go with the F30 at this point is that mostly the kinks are ironed out and its been a solid car which doesn't look bad at all
The reason to go with the G20 is that BMW is besieged by GOOD competitors and whenever that happens.. they pull a rabbit out of the hat to please the enthusiasts again They did that with the 340 LCI & the M3 CS.. Esp for the M340i I expect that .. anything less than the M340i.. I'd just get a solid F30 |

If I was buying, I would definitely avoid the first model years of the G20. The LCI F30s ride much better than the first gen. The cars feel better built etc. I owed both and BMW really sorted out lots of detials with the LCI models...plus the packages and options always make more sense after 1-2 years.
