Hi guys,
I am having a very frustrating issue with my bmw 2014 335i Msport which has only been driven 57,000 kms. So last week saturday I bought new tires for my car and went to the tire shop to get them installed. New tires are Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06. Front are 235/35R19 and Rear are 275/30R19. These new tires replaced the old factory summer run flats. The tire installation went perfectly and I went my way home. Later that evening I went for a drive and a low tire pressure warning came up stating the rear right tire is flat. I pulled over and checked all tires and all tires in perfect shape and none of them were flat. I rechecked all the pressure levels and everything was fine. I then decide to go into idrive menu and try to reset, it wouldn't allow me to reset. The next day, Sunday, I decide to go back to the tire shop for investigation and they rechecked everything and they too couldn't reset the error. Today i brought the car to the bmw dealership and guess what? They too couldn't figure out what's going on and said they need more time to do diagnose the issue. So they rescheduled for coming Tues. Please note that Canadian cars don't have TPMS sensors. At the moment, my car will not allow me to drive in any other modes besides comfort mode. Has anyone ever come across this kind of issue or know what's causing this problem? This has been so frustrating for me. Please help. Thank you. |

My money would be on the Tire dealer broke or damaged a TPMS. Did the dealer test them and confirm they are working? I've found one of my local dealers has the worst troubleshooters.

Did you reset the tire pressures after you installed the new tires?
I know you said you tried to reset (I wasn't sure if you meant clear that specific code or reset the tire pressure)

I believe Canadian cars don't have TPMS sensors but I could be wrong. I don't think the tire shop did the calibration (reset) after installing. BMW tried to reset the codes but no luck. Yes I tried to reset in the idrive but the reset is greyed out.

How does the car identify that a specific tire is low in air pressure without a TPMS?
It identified the right rear tire as low. Last edited by frazervalley; 10-27-2018 at 07:08 PM.. Reason: Clarification |

Change or difference in rotation speed compared to other tires, perhaps? Pretty sure that's how it was on my E46, but I don't remember if it could isolate a specific tire. Only had a flat once in that car.

It might not have a TPMS in the traditional sense, but it obviously has some sort of sensor or else how would it know the tire was low. For instance, some Honda's have what is called an indirect tpms system which means it is probably indicated through the ABS system. I would start by removing that wheel and reviewing everything to make sure nothing is broke or disconnected.
