J&R Auto Performance Inc./ AARodriguez Corp- N47 tunes
Im currently in Georgia but fixing to move to Texas in a few weeks, so a tune has been in sight from AARodriguez in Dallas,GA.
Ive seen their site and specs. I contacted JR and AA to get more info. -AARodriguez said they are working on a tune for the N47 and will be out this week or next. -JR Auto messaged me today saying they offer two stages for stock components of the 328D N47 engine and offer a stage 3 with DPF,SCR delete. Tunes takes about 2-3 hours at the Dallas location (AARodriguez). Sent me a dyno diagram for the ST1 & ST2. ST3 will be out soon. I asked about MPG improvement but was informed expecting good fuel economy improvement with DPF delete option- no feedback's yet though. Looking at the dyno ST1 +30HP + 37FTLB ST2 +40HP + 60FTLB Stock 183HP@4205 RPM / 290 ft-lb @ 2152 RPM (BMW says 180hp/280tq) ST1 212HP@4233 RPM / 327 ft-lb @ 2233 RPM ST2 223HP@4269 RPM / 351 ft-lb @ 2274 RPM BMW says 180hp/280tq so from those specs it would be +47tq/ +70tq Im not sure yet on pricing if the site is current ($849) of its going to change with the different stages. With these tunes, what are the cons? Do they do any long term damages or issues? trip any lights or break sensors etc? Has anyone done this before on the 328d that can chime in on it? Id like to get as much info so i can decide on it before i leave GA in a few weeks. Thanks! |

When I spoke with Mission Performance on their tunes they told me that Stage 1 is pretty safe, and Stage 2 will put a lot more stress on the DPF. Given the numbers are comparable with JR/AAR's, I'd imagine you'd see similar effects.
I'm curious to know the difference between AAR tune they told you is coming out soon and the JR tunes they currently sell. |

I just don't want all these codes and CEL to be coming up and breaking sensors and stuff. Then it wouldn't be worth it to me. |

I have the JR ST1 on my F30. I am waiting on certain things to happen for the ST3 with deletes to proceed for mine. Since you asked about mileage....during our last cross country trip to NY and back we got 41mpg average over the whole trip with aggressive driving. 80mph average on the highway and plenty of mountain driving.

Sounds like the chip I put in mine, on my drive to San Antonio I got 40-41mpg going 85. How is the throttle response different and overall you experience? Would u recommend doing a st2 instead of 1 off the bat. What's the price difference? I like how 1&2 u use stock components. I'm just weary on the wear and tear since not many have done it. |

DDE is the Digital Diesel Electronics computer that the tune is flashed to on your vehicle.
When you go in for your first tune they pull all the files from your DDE. In the future, if you want to do their S2 flash, they can take one of their DDEs, clone your DDE to it (from the files they pulled on your first visit), and mail you that DDE to use. When you get it, you'll take your DDE out, put the one they mailed you in, and send your DDE to them for the S2 flash. When they return your DDE with the S2 flash you send them back their DDE. A $500 deposit is required when they do this. I haven't gotten a tune from AAR, but read about this on their site (or Facebook, don't remember exactly which one). |

From what I saw there was no pricing difference... I don't think there's any charge for this service other than shipping too since you put down the $500 deposit to get one of their loaner DDEs (so you could essentially buy a spare DDE for $500).

Found where AAR advertised their zero down time DDE exchange service: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21604981

-13618588425 (latest) -13618585628 -13618586534 -13618574380 -13618574234 -13618572546 There are also other part numbers for the DDE. They aren't easy to find used, and are pretty pricey new (I bought the last used one I could find the other week). One thing to note, is that even though different models might use the same DDE PN, you need to find a DDE that has the emissions control features and correct injector count for your vehicle for cloning (this is what Mission Performance told me), so look for a DDE that came out of a 328d or US spec X3 28d. DDEs from an X5 35d or 535d won't work, nor will DDEs from x20/25d vehicles from Europe (don't have the correct emissions programs). If AAR will let you buy a DDE from them for $500, it's probably worth it (I paid $400 for mine, and MP is charging me $100 to clone). |

I have had it since mid July. Cost was same as advertised. There was a noticeable butt dyno difference. I know the ST3 final tweaks were still being worked on by Jarek and as such I am really interested to see the final dyno numbers. I wouldn't hesitate to jump straight to ST2 if you are keeping your emissions. Based on other conversations I believe that this engine with max out at under 300whp without starting a chain of events with other major mods and having an effect on reliability. I don't plan on going past ST3 myself as I have the 335d for those fun times. |

I did notice a little 1-2 shifting turbo oddity but that may have been the adaptations relearning as we drove as its no longer there. I have not had a dyno done but the 60-90 acceleration is definitely stronger. For mpg I can say that I didn't see a dip even though I was feeling out the tune with higher speeds. Take that how you will. Just to wet your appetite I have seen a 48mpg photo of the ST3 tune. Can't speak to the circumstances of that tank of fuel however. |

Made an appointment for Monday for stage 2 tune on m my 328d. Stage 3 dyno and info is up on the site now. When I called today it sounds good! Increase more power AND 10% fuel econ with no longer have to add DEF fluid. Doesn't sound like a bad gig. At the moment I want to keep it safe and go with the 2. Maybe later I'll upgrade, but if I'm happy with the acceleration and response with the 2 I probably won't.
