Talking NEW ProTuning Freaks (PTF) Intercooler

PTF announced today that they will be releasing a new intercooler for the BMW F Chassis N20 N26 N55

This intercooler will fit the BMW 228, M235, 320, 328, 335, 420, 428, 435 & M2 with the N55 engine.

It's a great upgrade to have once the car is Bootmod3 Tuned (BM3)

More details soon

Per Pro Tuning Freaks Instagram
Among a few goals we’ve set for 2020 was to grow the team on the mechanical design side and get started on designing hard parts that performed far better than stock and suited the bm3 OTS maps offered. Its been a long road putting all the pieces together through hiring an in-house mechanical designer, planning and design stages, organizing manufacturing, logistics around shipping, covid-19 related delays, but we’re getting close finally on the first of our performance hard parts, the N55 / N20 front mount air to air intercoolers. Gloss silver powder coat?

This looks promising! Hopefully it's manufactured here in the states or somewhere with good quality control!

The blueprint looks comparable to the csf/vrsf race intercooler
I'm stoked, may wait for this to release before pulling the trigger on a cooler

It’s a CAD image - how can anyone come to any conclusion on size, performance and the quality on a CAD image?

We don't know performance or efficiency without data
But the outline of it, shows a larger face in proportion to other 5 inch stepped coolers
Looks to be similar to the 6" race with the larger face (height)
Just an observation of side profiles

Do you know if this is a bar & plate design or a tube & fin design?

Probably Bar and Plate because tube and fin are marketing garbage.

Tube & Fin is the internal intercooler technology that BMW engineers chose for its quick flow which makes for low intake pressure drop.

No, they chose them because they are cheap.

Just the opposite! Tube & fin is more costly to manufacture than bar & plate. Bar & plate is heavy and cheap

You’re so wrong OMG. No one in the aftermarket uses tube and fin for air to air intercoolers because they are “better” than bar and plate. OEM use it because its ok for tiny stock boost levels and its cheap. Plus they develop leaks so much quicker when tube and fin and tiny little rocks from road debris hit it in the front of the car. For an air to water intercooler a tube and fin is better but not air to air like we have

Tube and fin is so cheap that it's what Porsche has historically used on its cheap 911TT and what Ferrari uses on the 488.

I feel the tube and fin/bar and plate discussion should be moved to the intercooler thread
