There is nothing particularly different in the context of depreciation between the two, they will suffer the same fate, albeit a prolonged one due to the later release of the G series 4.

I'm in this industry. I will tell that yes it will impact the value. But it's a BMW they depreciate hard like most luxury. Just be glad it's not a Cadillac or Jaguar.
The F30 vs E90 thing is laughable. The F30 is not a failure or tanking worse than the E90. The F30 is, and will continue to be, worth more until it, like the E90 bottoms out. To think otherwise is delusional. And anyone that thinks a base suspension E90 handles better than a M Sport F30 is kidding themselves. Yes the F30 is not the usual "Ultimate Driving Machine" evolution from the E90 people wanted but at least live in reality. Sport vs Sport I could agree the E90 may be more fun though. I went from a base E90 to M Sport F30. Both rwd and 6 speed, the F30 is absolutely the better handler. |

Interestingly enough, while e90s and e92s continue to plummet, e91 m sport wagons are holding value. I recently saw a 2011 m sport sell for 15k!

New G20 suspension will make you forget the F30
Quote:
Quote: reference to G20 in comparison to watered down (Failed Chasis of F30) "seventh generation of the Roundel’s venerable sedan is a dynamic about-face from its watered-down predecessor. It just felt right." ...work started on this car, code-named G20, in 2014, and it’s clear from the deep-rooted tweaking that his team was well aware that the previous 3-series had lost too much of its road-taming allure. Van As says the overwhelming priority was to improve the 3’s dynamics without sacrificing ride comfort. Ref: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...t-sedan-driven Pretty good review of what is coming and BMW own acknowledgment of what was lost in the f30 chassis. The F30 tried to hard to please using trickery suspension. They are going back to tuning a truly balanced chassis and suspension. driving the e90 has been a joy, something I can't say with the F30. No complaints, only through experience I look forward to the new G20. The F30 has its place but market share loss to its competitors is a reality and such is why they are working to Return to chassis kinematics.. |

The E90 is an E46 put on a strict diet of butter sticks and pasta. There will be troves complaining about the G20 as well, it's just the cool thing to do.

I get notices from my dealership that they'll take my car I'm buying and put me in a new 2018 lease. They tell me my '15 GC is worth about $18K. LOL. It only has 22K miles on it. Screw you, dealership!

I'm always on Auto Trader just checking out cars and the prices. The E90 dropped in value after about 2 years after the F30 came out. It seems like the 330i and 335i dropped more in value than the 328i, I'm thinking maybe because it's more in demand in the second hand market. If you're looking to get a F30/32 I'd wait at least 1.5 after the G20 is out if you're trying to get a good deal. End of the year preferably. The dealers always want to get rid of old inventory.
Some owners try not to put too many miles on their car because they're in fear of low resale value. I think if you like your car just use it and don't worry about that.

Hell I was at my dealer and spotted a used 15' 328d wagon for $34,999 with almost 50k miles! I was completely shocked at how much they were charging. I read somewhere that BMW dealerships are starting to upcharge any wagons they have on their lot, calling them "rare" (which is somewhat true) and that people can't even haggle them down in price. When I read the article I didn't believe it, but after a trip to my dealer, it must be true, especially because I know that no 3er with 50k miles is worth $35k, especially a bare bones model like the one I saw. Oh and the 15' 328i (sedan) next to it, had 45k miles and was a little more than half the price at $19k with a good amount of options.

As long as any bimmer has electric steering assist people will complain, no matter how large the improvement over the previous generation will be. We have to accept it, the good ol' days of road feel from hydraulic steering is gone, and this applies to not only BMW but brands like Audi and Merc too.

The F30 335i's are priced so reasonable right now, hence the reason i got mine right away. Although i should have waited i wanted one asap since my old car was just about on its last leg. Before buying i knew i wanted a 335i but when i used to check them out and their prices i couldn't afford one. Then when i saw 335i's with less than 30k miles and pricing was around $25k i was surprised and push for it. Fact is they will always lose value with new generations, the only thing is, is that the f30 335i's were dropping in price and were at a good value even before the announcement and the rave of the G20. Not only is the pricing awesome and low mileage for the f30 335is its also for all F30's really.
Also most leases i've seen in my area of F30s are all well below 30k miles and around $25k, which is unheard of in my area due to the roads and small population there is miles between my house and gas stations. Also like someone else said there are a ton of F30's coming off leases right now, and more to come. Not sure why most people aren't buying their leases out but one will never know, unless you are the lessee. |
