Bubbling paint on roof

Hi folks,

Has anyone gotten bubbling paint on this area of the roof?

These parts are not metal so I am not worried about rust but still, what the heck!? I do not use a roof rack.

Did you buy your car used? That looks like repaint work.

My car was brand new, only 1.5 years old now. This wasn't there before winter.

That's weird. Just have warranty cover it. It looks like it's just the ski/bike rack part.

I have the exact same paint issue in the exact same spot on my F32. I noticed it last week while detailing. Not sure if its a bubble or just an imperfection in the plastic mold that just gets painted over. I was going to bring it up at next service.

New owner of 2012 BSM Sportline 6MT

I came on here looking for other reports since i have the same issue on both roof rails towards the back. Same spots as the OP.

Taking the car in for it's scheduled maintenance so I'll see where BMW is at with it. Looks like a paint defect and possible TSM

Had a problem with those on our E90. Simple warranty replacement and no more problem.

Most likely an issue with improper prep before painting. They may have missed wiping that spot down or sealing it in after coming out of the mold. Plastic can be tricky to paint and if not done right the paint can lift or plastic substrate seeps up through the paint.

Warranty should cover it.

Same problem occurred for my 2013 F30 bmw as well. I am wondering if this issue will cover under warranty. So, what is the outcome from your case? Your dealership able to fix it without cost? Please let me know!!!

I had a similar issue on my front bumper. It had a bubble near the passenger headlight. They resprayed the entire bumper under warranty.

I have EXACTLY the same issue on my ALPINE WHITE 2013 335XI -- I got the car a few months back and noticed it early on. I took over a lease so never got the car CarProof'ed (in some ways, didn't want to know if it had been accidented before) and so this bubbling has had me convinced that it had been accidented. So good to hear that yours is new and you can confirm it hasn't been involved in any re-paint.

Please advise if the dealer covers this under warranty; I have my warranty ending soon (nearing the end of the warranty mileage), so if this is covered, I'll add this to the list of things I'll be asking them to take care of at my next service.

Showed it to the dealer during my last visit and they agreed to repair it next time I bring my car in. Supposedly a common problem from what I was told. The fix is a direct replacement of the parts.

Try a different dealer and if they don't do anything, then contact BMW NA.

Probably NOT corrosion, as it is plastic, more like a manufacturing defect. IMHO.

I noticed some weird bubbling on my rare bumper, looks like raised orange peel. just took it to my dealer, they took some pics and said they will send it to Head Office.

I have this issue on my 2015 LSB 335i and will be bringing it up on my next service, which isn't for a little bit.

Keep me posted if anyone in the GTA gets this covered by the dealership.
