Interior changes

Having sorted the exterior of the car, I thought it was time to do the interior, I hated all the silver trim inside so Mark at M-tec in Sheffield changed it for me ( I still hate the blue line on all the doors and dash but they're a pig to get off the doors so I'll put up with it)
The blue stripe is good if the car is EB but not if it's MG like mine, I've no idea what the designer was thinking of, why not colour code it if the car is a colour that doesn't go with blue

Very tidy job. Love the way the weave pattern follows on the different components. I know what you mean about though with the blue, I passed on a really nice car just because of that.

I'm so glad I don't have the blue on mine. Original owner spec'd piano black fortunately.

Fine on an EB, but anything else it just looks odd.

That looks really good though (the wrap, not the blue strip!)

Couldn't you just wrap the blue as well?

That's a serious question, not an attempt to be difficult. I just bought my 2018 440i at lease end. I have the aluminum hex trim with piano black edges. The aluminum has some scratches and I'm thinking about wrapping.

EDIT: Very nice job, BTW. How did they change the chrome around the vent to black?

Yes the entire piece can be wrapped or they can be wrapped separately with two different wraps (which is what I did). If you wrap the whole large dash piece, you can just cut a slit along the top edge of the long thin piece, then heat it some more so the wrap tucks into the crevice.

Nice wrap work, OP, puts my DIY to shame 🙂

Can we see pics of yours? I'd like to see how you used different wraps.

I did ask about wrapping the blue but the way they fit on the door is an absolute pig to get them off and refit, they don't just clip off like everything else, they have butterfly lugs on them that are pushed through the door card then I think heated up and split behind the door card and have to be drilled out and there's quite a few on each door,

Mark from M-Tec said if he wrapped them in situ, the wrap would come off within days because he couldn't tuck the wrap behind them or it would be many more hours doing them and therefore very expensive.

I've no idea how he does the gloss black round the vents, all I can say is, it was offered as an option in with the price and I'm glad I opted for it, it looks factory fitted.

It's an art doing it this good and Mark is very very good at this art.

You might want to rethink that signature... unless this is what you had in mind. In that case, it's totally okay with me. You be you!

I have the sport line with red stripe interior. I did a dry carbon for the top piece and flat black for the bottom. I ended up removing the flat black a few days ago because I didn't like it anymore but in doing so, peeled a film off the red stripe, so I ended up painting it...it's not perfect so I might wrap the entire piece in one piece of wrap.

The pictures show the three iterations. I'd appreciate any feedback. I already know the paint job isn't good enough, so I'll either start over with a new piece of dash trim or re-wrap the entire piece in carbon. The flat black looked too much like electrical tape 😕

I'd just like to point out that all the work done cost £106 LESS than that ACS iDrive cover mentioned in another thread, just to put it into context

it's NOT that kind of raw meat I was thinking of , I can't ever imagine eating a raw sausage, yuk , it's the type you can have as a facemask depending on the size of the lips

Looks nice, though I'd ditch the coloured strips personally but that's just me. I got some real dry carbon bit made to match my m performance bits as I didn't like the Alcantara

I'd love to change the blue strips but the ones on the door house the ambient lighting so ditching them is not viable, I just wish they weren't blue

Shame its not a f32. I have the gloss black door cards originally on my car before I swapped out for m4 door cards. You could always check ebay

I think that the coloured strip should be either colour coded to the car or at least have that as an option, rather than just piano black or 'wood' in some cases, If they had've been red I wouldn't have bought the car, in my opinion a MG strip would be perfect. I wouldn't want carbon overload, at the end of the day it's not a Koenigsegg or Pagani

You can always take the strip off and respray it to suit your colour scheme. They are pretty easy to remove and put back on with a hot glue gun

The small strip on the drivers vent comes off easily, but the long strip is held in place with those melted plastic rivets that the inner door pulls are secured with...they have to be drilled out first.
