Canadian f30s for sale

I'm seeing a lot of f30s in my area imported from Quebec. Interesting since they're all 320s but like really well specd out. Foling seats, sport package, 18's.

Are they also subject to the n20 timing chain warranty? I ask since they are 2015s... Zero carfax records aside from registration...

BMW Canada Warranty has NOTHING to do with BMW USA Warranties.

Canada does not have as good consumer protection and protection is usually worse.

The recall was from BMW North America for the n20 timing chain issue. - I suppose a dealer should be able to run the VIN and find out if the car was ever serviced for the issue.

I think I've seen a handful of barebone 320s in Canada. LCI I don't think I've seen one with out OEM 18's. A sales rep told me once that they can't move a 320 if it doesn't have sport or luxury line on it. If you wanted a basic one; "special order" lol

I guess that's the big question, if I bought it and I started seeing signs of the timing chain going, would a dealer fix it under the recall?

Couldn't really tell you. If I were in the market for a F30 320 - I'd look at the LCI model (2016-2018) to avoid running into that potential issue.

If you're set on the pre-LCI model, i'd just make sure to find out if the recall has been performed rather than having to deal with the issue later down the road.

Also, if you're looking at Canadian cars, I'd recommend buying a car originating from Ontario over Quebec. Seeing that they have milder winters which tend to result in a less brutalized car... potholes/salt etc...

Right, this was mostly just put off curiosity. Thanks for the help.

Yes, but they announced it to the NHTSA, which has no jurisdiction in Canada. I have no idea if BMW Canada is part of the recall, but know from many threads BMW Canada is not honoring extended length on parts in Canada that they are in the USA, for reasons in the earlier posts.

On September 26th, BMW of North America, LLC announced to NHTSA its intention to conduct a voluntary Recall on certain 2012-2014 model year BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3 and Z4 models equipped with the N20 or N26 engine, produced from May 2012 to August 2013.

Affected vehicles in center inventory must not be retailed or delivered until the Recall repair has been performed. Refer to the file "N20 N26 Delivery Stop.pdf" for vehicles which must be held. Vehicles at BMW vehicle delivery centers will be corrected before shipment to your center.

Never buy any used vehicle from Quebec! They are one of the very few provinces that uses salt to deal with de-icing roads (contrary to popular belief use of salt for de-icing is actually quite uncommon). Although most new cars have "lifetime" rust warranty these days they never apply to the underside of a car. If anyone has ever seen the underside of a used car from Quebec they would understand, imagine having to work on anything on the suspension all corroded and shitty, no thanks.

Extended Warranty for F30 timing chain

There are two posts on the Canada part of this forum dated April 2019 which indicate that BMW Canada has extended the Warranty on the timing chain to 7 years from date of service or to 112,600 km, whichever comes first. Search for a thread entitled "F30 timing chain issue".

Salt is definitely used in the province of Ontario. I’m sure many others use it as well. Any city has to use salt and not dirt so as not to clog up the drainage systems. I wouldn’t buy a car from Quebec either but mostly because that province is notorious for shady business with cars. Not to say that doesn’t happen everywhere but more prevalent there.
