Apple CarPlay
Some may have already read the press release and news articles that were released yesterday.
But I wanted to confirm that CarPlay will now be offered for an unlimited period of time for BMW and MINI vehicles in Canada. Effective December 4th, 2019, Apple CarPlayŽ Preparation subscription will be available for an unlimited time at no additional cost for new vehicles. Vehicles with an active Apple CarPlay Preparation subscription will automatically have their terms changed to unlimited. Vehicles whose Apple CarPlay Preparation already expired and was not renewed will automatically have this activated by BMW for an unlimited time. For those customers who purchased an extended subscription, BMW Canada will provide a prorated refund (plus applicable taxes) to the credit card originally used to purchase the subscription prior to December 4th, 2019. BMW Canada will be processing these refunds internally and those customers who qualify for a refund can expect to receive it by January, 2020. |

I missed the press release or other news articles about this good news ! Just renewed the subscription for one of the cars (Nov 21) but we are looking forward to receiving the (almost) entire sum back in January 2020 !

Canadian33, would you know when the connected drive portal will be updated for the unlimited CarPlay?
My Carplay expired on December 6th, but my portal still shows a cost of 300$ to extend it. Thanks |

You can do an update of ConnectedDrive/BMW Assist to see if it pulls in the updated subscription earlier. |

Do you know what the timeline is for Canadian cars to get the unlimited CarPlay?
How would I go about updating ConnectedDrive? Is it the "Update BMW Assist" in the ConnectedDrive options menu? Thanks! |

canadian33, I had previously asked you in an older thread if cars could download CarPlay via ConnectedDrive and your response that hardware is required and will prevent you from being able to download CarPlay via the ConnectedDrive Store. After all the updates to the Canadian portion of the sites, CarPlay is a downloadable option. Is this valid or a system glitch? I have no intention of buying CarPlay - at least not now since I'm still leasing but just wanted to know if something changed.

Can you send me your VIN? There are hardware requirements, but there are also vehicles that have the hardware, but CarPlay was not purchased from factory. In these instances, a ConnectedDrive purchase is possible. |
