I have done pretty much exact same trip apart from we did moray firth first and then back tracked to Loch Ness and Skye.

Was mainly mountain biking so that time round we did not really push it lol.

I took a evening drive last week from Glasgow - Helensburgh - Faslane - loch Lomand - Glasgow. The road from Faslane to Loch Lomand is awesome.
Some pictures below taken on the route

Note that Machrihanish is a bit of a full day out - it's something like 180 miles each way from Glasgow. (Used to get paid 50p a mile to go to meetings down that way. Lovely little earner as it was done in top gear most of the way!)

Some great stretches of road on the Kintyre peninsula as you head down and decent surfaces in places. Go all the way to Southend (the Campbeltown one, not the Essex one) and you can see Northern Ireland on a clear day.

Lunch in front of the open fire in the 18th century George Hotel in Inverary is usually very good.
