Transmission Possibly slipping?
Hey guys Ive had my 335 f30 running on jb4 stage 2 Map 7 e85 ER down pipe
Automatic feels like my transmission is slipping on 3rd gear roll off 40 revs up up to 4,500 rpm and feels like a choke rpm's keep going up but car goes no where first thought it was a choke but i guess not started happening when I updated the JB4 to the new software I changed it to map 2 and it doesnt happen on this map , I emailed terry sent him a couple of logs and he is taking a look over them hopefully it is not the transmission maybe just a bug

You guys tuning with autos are crazy. The stock transmission is only rated to hold 332 lb ft. With OP's mods, he's definitely making over 400 lb ft.... maybe closer to 450.
/Edit/ Just looked up the ZF 8HP45 torque limit, and it's 450 nm, which is 332 ft lbs. No more than what a MPPK puts out. Last edited by kyleb350; 12-17-2013 at 04:07 PM.. |

Somewhat. Theirs has stronger internals to deal with more torque. Read somewhere that it's around 20lbs heavier...
But doesn't dinan offer a tune that doesn't void BMW's warranty ? It's rated at 355 hp and 400 pound-feet of torque...

Haven't many people been running upwards of 400 ft/lb's with no issues? I though stage 2 was still considered a moderate tune? Im looking to get one and possibly DP to go with my exhaust, but doubt Ill move from map 2, am I looking at any issues?

OP, I'm wondering what your fuel pressure may be dropping to in 3rd and 4th. I am running the same setup as you. Map 7, downpipe, and E85. I ran my car in the quarter mile last weekend and had some fuel pressure issues causing the car to bog a little in 3rd and 4th. If this is a fuel pressure issue, you may need to get an inline low pressure fuel pump (LPFP).
What is your PID set to? What is your auto shift boost reduction set to? Attach your logs for review if you want. |

My car doesn't want to shift out of 3rd gear (I believe it's 3rd) either at around 60-65mph at wot, it'll go to redline and sit there about what feels like a half a second too long. It doesn't do it every time, but it does it enough that if I want to wot from low speeds I just use the paddles. Running JB4 map 1.

Went back and looked it up. The ZF 6 speed Steptronic (GA6HP19Z) transmission is rated at 400 nm. Very odd, since that is only 295 ft lbs. I think I'm noticing a pattern of these transmissions being underrated (for the most part). Either way, numbers aside, the F30 transmissions should be able to take a little more than the E90 ones.

Why do I wot without manual? Because an automatic should shift more accurately and faster than a human can? But you're right because it's not shifting until redline.
