Why not aftermarket wheels ?
Just seems to me the trend is to keep to BMW OEM. Looks like there’s ‘loads’ of people on main forum (I know there’s a larger group in USA).
Just wondered why more people dont do aftermarket ? Given choice & availability. Been looking for some 19’s to fit winter tyres to myself. I have heard about quality of some but a decent well know make should be OK - Team Dynamics etc. Rob

Also price, picked up set of BMW 18” with good tyres for £400 for winter set on this forum. Can’t beat OEM look especially at this price. BMW are very fair with pricing, people got new sets of 19” with tyres and tpms for £1000. Don’t forget insurance increase for modification...

I've gone down both routes.
The OEM ones do look that bit better and you know they will fit (ie some non OEM options require fittings kits and / or spacers). At the risk of being shot down, some of the OEM quality can be poor with corrosion - didnt have the same problem with non OEM. It is worth highlighting that my non OEM have been exact fit - so no fitting kit. It is always what I look for - I am not keen on the ones which require spigot rings and where off set results in spacers being required. I also manage to get wheels which take the BMW centre badge which helps with the overal appearance. As others have said, its just down to personal taste - like the guy I saw yesterday in a 335d with bronze wheels - my 8 year old commented on them. |

HRE wheels look very nice and there's certainly a load more choice after market. This time around I feel much less inclined to add much to the exterior (of a near black M3) in terms of CF and the CP exhaust suits me better than MPE so that spare cash has to go somewhere

There is a difference between replicas and non OEM. I give reps a wide berth but non OEM consideration. However, most times when I see non OEM, I think, “that car has be f**ked with”

There is a world of difference between the likes of HRE/BBS and Volks and a set of cheap cast alloys though.

Also consider the need to inform your insurance company about modifications.
When I put my OEM winter wheels (and tyres) on my car I informed my insurance company and they had no problem with them. They stated that I can change them as I see fit. I suspect that with non OEM wheels this might be considered a modification that could increase the premium. |

They said they would only replace with the original equipment, bonus I thought as they were more expensive than what I had put on.

Generally not a fan of the aftermarket wheel look, however non standard OEM wheels can look nice eg M4 wheels on a normal 4 series (assuming they fit OK).

Would rather have good looking and good quality aftermarket wheels than replicas of OEM wheels all day long!!!
Saying that, i personally find some OEM wheels dire looking. Cannot fathom the look of a 405M or 437M. Probably because every other F series car has them. |

These are mine - 18" Fox MS007 in Anthracite. The rears have an offset of 35, so it has the equivalent effect of using a 12mm spacer, but with a nice dished look (and technically a better solution than a spacer).

There are plenty of people running aftermarket wheels, it depends on what you're going for really.
I've got a mate with an F32 running 20" Vossens, another with an F33 running 20" Veemanns (both of them went for cosmetics rather than performance) and I'm running 20" HRE FF15s (got a great deal on them, and although they're 20s they're lighter than the 19" 442ms that I took off) |
