Brake pads?
I just had my front and rear brake pads replaced at around 56,000 km. Is this normal since rear brake pads usually last longer? The mechanic said the fronts were basically done, and the rears weren't too far behind. I paid $620 after tax from a local shop, was this a decent price? I drive a 2015 335i M Performance Edition.

where did you purchase the parts? OEM or aftermarket? I need pads for both front and rear.

2014 335xi auto... I'm at 62k on original brakes and was recently told by the dealership that my brakes were in "dire" need of replacement as they were at around 50% worn. Thing is our cars have estimates/calculations built in based on driving behaviours that will show under "Service" information in iDrive for how many KM are remaining on the current pads (different values front/rear). These cars also have pad wear sensors that indicate when they need to be replaced.
In all sincerity, unless you are getting a warning or having some type of braking issue, you're just playing into the money game with them. |

Brake Job Cost
I just had the brakes and rotors replaced on all four corners of my 2009 323i with 108,000 km on the odometer, I've owned the car for 15,000 km of that mileage. I paid $1250.00, done by a local shop using german parts. Just wondering how often others were having to get this done? Was this a reasonable cost? Thanks Bob

I was just told by dealer that melybrear pads are done.
Car is 430 comb, 20 months old, 25k odo (!!!). Is it possible? I mean I guess the pads are gone but does it make sense? Or is this indicating something was wrong? They also replaced both rear shocks, leaking, under warranty (at least on that no one argued it’s normal. Should last 100-200k). Could bad shocks (probably manufacturing defect) cause somehow excessive ware in brakes? |

Sorry I wasn’t clear: it’s 25,000 KM! (= 15,000 miles). And I drive 99% alone with a laptop and lunch bag...(no extra weight) and 60% on highway (usually on cruise control). Still seems reasonable?

The rear brakes will wear early if you drive hard, at least on RWD cars due to the brakes being used for traction control.

I replaced mine around 60,000km, they were pretty much done at that point Akebono pads on stock rotors (the rotors will definitely need replacing next time around). No more dust!
