If it had a 90ah battery it should be replaced with a 90ah battery.

make sure you have your car coded and registered for the 80AH battery otherwise the car may over charge the battery.

Yeah you should use a 90Ah battery. If you absolutely don't want to, make sure to code it for the new battery capacity in ADDITION to registering it. If you simply do a battery registration, it will assume the new battery has the same capacity as the old one.

90 AH is needed for auto start stop. You can get them pretty cheap if you code and register it yourself.

No but it needs to be registered (coded). Car is coded to charge for 90 amps. IIRC you can code for 70-80-90 batteries.

Rule of thumb - never replace a battery with one of lower capacity.

Your car came with 90ah for a reason...

There might be non oem batteries rated for 90 ah. We have those in the states much cheaper.

And a 1 series is cheaper than a 3 series.

Regular gas is cheaper than premium.

A Volkswagen is cheaper than a BMW.

Your point?

Point being for 10AH more am paying almost twice the amount which from my understanding what matters is the voltage of the battery remain the same in this case 12v and the size for fit...

With that money spread would buy a 80 amp on the input side. Have an 80 amp as a replacement in my 135is.

You want to maintain or exceed the factory specs on the discharge sides CCA, CA & reserve capacity ratings

You clearly do not understand amperage.

Wattage is only one part of the equation.

You can use 8 D size batteries in Series and get 12VDC for about 10£ using your logic.

Or save space and use a single 9 volt and 2 D batteries for 5£

The AH rating means:

AH = Amperes per hour(Amperage), a 90Ah battery means that your battery can last for 1 hour by giving 90A continuously,

This is in a perfect world with battery @ 100% charge to begin with, normal state of charge in real life of a battery installed in car might be around 70–75% = less than 1 hr in real life

With all the electronic systems pulling off the battery in new cars it's best to go with highest AH available for your specific car - again, that's the reason the 90ah battery was installed from the factory

I get it that the other may be cheaper, but you should have guessed that owning a BMW was not gonna be cheap from the start

And yes, there are aftermarket batteries available with 90ah rating that would be cheaper so that's an option

Did your pricing include new battery, installation, & registering? Here in U.S. I was quoted $700 for all included in my old E92, I'm not gonna pay that price for a battery, so I purchased a new OEM BMW battery of correct ratings, installed it myself, & registered it with Carly app/dongle

> Even if you install a battery of same rating it should be Registered so that the charging logic car uses is correct - this can be done DIY using Carly or Bimmercode

>If the new battery is a different ah than factory also = Coding different ah is necessary + Registering upon install
