I would go 4GC if I had no family and had no need for pushchairs, car seats, etc... Last edited by x-m4n; 02-23-2016 at 10:46 AM.. |

Or rear seat passengers and golf clubs. I love the look of the 4GC and no doubt it's a better road car. I very well might have lived with its limitations if the GT didn't exist. But the GT does exist, and I have zero regrets.

Great thread, as I am also shopping the GT at the moment. Finding a lot of my questions answered, and more importantly it's great to see how people are just plain satisfied with it. I don't see a lot of threads of people complaining about creaking noises, sun roof issues, engine problems, etc. Sure makes the decision making process easier...
We only have the 320d engine, RWD here in Thailand, in either a Sport or Luxury trim. Cannot order xDrive, Adaptive Cruise Control or Blind Spot protection, and so many other options. I would really like the Blind Spot, wondering if I order the parts at a US BMW dealer, and hand carry back, the local service center can install for me Project! Going for a test drive on Thursday.. am a little concerned about driving on run flats. Like a lot of people in this thread, we have a baby and I don't want him getting jarred around over bad roads with a stiff suspension. Tires can be changed if need be, thats not a big deal. The more I read about this car, the more it seems right. We already have a great CRV, so no reason to buy the X3. And just a sedan wouldn't make sense for the family.. so for all the points made in this thread, the GT really hits a lot of hot buttons for me. Other car I'm considering if the C350 Estate plug in hybrid. My office is 4 miles away, so I can charge her up and maybe get gas once every 2 months? . But unlike this car, I have read a forum or two on it and there are many complaints about wind noise, sun roof issues, and a long list of other little issues. It's a beautiful car, but that makes me worry. I don't want a car that becomes a disruption to my personal life like the Volvo I just had to return. I need a reasonably reliable car, thats safe, practical, and enjoyable to drive. My buddy has the 320d GT here, he says he gets 12KM/L in the city and 20KM/L, 28MPG and 47MPG, which is pretty solid. Also the 320d engine gets great reviews.. feel like it's a car that will last me a long long time, which is what I need out here. This is not like the states where I would lease and turn it in every few years.. you buy here, and drive it into the dirt |

I'm a year into the car now, and frankly the fuss about RFTs is puzzling. I can see the added sidewall stiffness being more of an issue with low profiles, but any low profile tire is going to have a harsher ride and be noisier than a higher aspect ratio tire. IMO most of the RFT complaints are from the same Luddites who complain about any and every aspect of the F series that's different from the E series. Wait a few years and these same bozos will be complaining about the G series and how much better they liked their old F series.

These may be some wind noise from the wing mirrors but it is soon forgotten.
I have had mine 6 months with no complaints.

I know it costs much more than this solution and it gives you less power in numbers but it's totally optimized for dynamics which is your main goal I guess. Personally I think that the stock n47-b47 is more than enough for everyday traffic. |

problem solved Anyway b47 is a good thing, it received some vibration and sound improvement so it's less harsh than the predecessor was and you have + 6 PS + improved economy

It's funny - from appearance, I had only liked the 4GC and then my sister went and got one ahead of me. After a lengthy test drive, I found it too constraining (and I'm only 5'10"!). Went and test drove the GT soon after and I was sold immediately - I'm picking up my new 328 GT on Monday! Couldn't believe the difference in head room etc. I think this is the most excited I've been to pick up a new car. Pics to follow...

could have had a 4 GC or a 5 Series as it was my intention but after driving the GT I was SOLD$$$. Yes the 4GC looks better and a little tighter inside but the GT looks ok in my books and is much spacier inside.

Coming from an E91, I actually looked at 3 models:
- the 3-series Touring - the 4-series GranCoupe - and the 3-series GT We don't have many 3GT's in the area, so my main focus was on the first 2 models. One day I ran into a 3GT ad, which got me interested. I read up on it, and was surprised to learn how much bigger the interior is compared to the 3-series Touring. Interior space was one of the most selling points for me. My family is growing, and every bit of space is welcome in the car. With my job, we often travel 3-4 adults in a single car. And the 3-series is just a bit small for that. People in the back seat always felt crammed. It is amazing how much room there is in this car. I am 6'2", and the person sitting behind has ample of leg room. The trunk space also feels more than in the Touring. Parking is a bit tricky due to the size of the car. It took me a while to get used to the change. I have to pay attention more to where I am parking. If I wouldn't be driving 4-5 adults in my car, I would have gone for the 4GC. I think it is the best looking BMW at the moment. But I needed the space, so the 3GT it is for me. Also, if there was 1 thing I could change in this car, that would be the frameless windows. People keep trying to open/close the doors by grabbing the window... which makes me nervous at time. I have the M Sport Package, xDrive and the Adaptive Suspensions. Handling is not as direct as it was with my E91. But this was to be expected with a car of this size. I am very happy with my decision. The 3GT is an amazing car. |

The 4GC has the same Windows, I hope you have opted for a reversing camera?

That's a bad way to close the doors. I am surprised your friends are doing this. They should be knowing better not to smudge the glass with their hands. I find frameless windows nice. Especially if you keep the windows open, getting in and out of the car feels more airy like in a convertible. Something to try: open up the windows before everyone is about to get out.
