Best sealant to use after wax?

I have been going back and forth on ceramic coating my car and figured I would explore the other option of wax/sealant. Can anyone recommend a good sealant to apply?

Thank you!

Interesting. So wash, dry and then just power lock? Anything after it?

I have read wax after sealant will add depth to shine. I use menzerna power lock also and have tried following it up with wax. I really didn't notice an improvement. The sealant left a great finish and I don't think the wax is worth the effort.

Menzerna Power Lock = Jescar Power Lock.
Developed by Jescar, and formerly known as Menzerna Power Lock, Jescar Power Lock is the same product you know and love - just a different name!
https://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-po...k-sealant.html

Topping with a wax can add some gloss & depth, and possibly add longevity. It should be no effort to add a coat or two of wax - if it is you're using too much product!

I read the thread title and have to say that it is backwards. If you are using a sealant then that should go over the clean paint (clay bar, polish). If you want to use a wax, then the wax would go over the sealant. Sealants need to bond with the paint. You won’t get that good bonding if you try and apply a sealant over wax.

I was just going to say that, wax is the last step. You shouldn't put anything over wax. You wax over a sealant.

I haven't tested it, but I would think that the same no-stick properties of Power Lock that keep the car cleaner and cause water to bead up would also keep wax from adhering to it. I haven't tested it because Power Lock over paint works much better than wax over paint ever did, so I have no reason to think that wax over Power Lock would make a difference even if the wax did adhere.

You guys are right. I wrote the title wrong and realized it but couldn't edit it. Should have been "Best sealant to use before wax". And yes, i realize some don't believe in wax as a top coat to give more shine. I do though.

That’s what I figured...just a typo. I do put a coat of wax over my sealant. Not sure if it really helps in the long run, but I do notice that my car maintains it’s super slickness for quite awhile. It is key, though, to ensure you use a wax that contains no abrasives as you don’t want to remove any of the sealant.

With Power Lock and no wax it stays super slick for at least six months. I suppose the only way to know for sure if the wax is beneficial is to leave one section of the car, say a door, without wax and see what happens.

I top Power Lock with a wax. I personally use Collinite 845. Topping the sealant with wax helps with longevity of the sealant. The wax serves as the sacrificial layer. Larry Kosilla of AmmoNYC has a great video about layering protection.

So I just spent a bunch of time detailing today and used the Sonax spray & shine sealant at the end.

Pressure washed, sprayed CarPro IronX, rinsed, foam cannon, rinsed, clay bar, rinse, Sonax Spray & Seal, rinse then dry with a water blade + microfiber towel and a mini air blaster (motorcycle one) for the trim.

Think it came out great, but will see in a week or so in NY with bird shit everywhere how it holds up!

hoyas490 Car looks very very clean. Try not to use the water blades. If you pick up any little rock or piece of dirt you will slide it along the paint and scratch it. I only use those blades to wipe off glass.

Get some high quality microfiber towels and use AMMO HYDRATE. Trust me, it's the best way of drying the car. You get the towel damp, spray the product onto the towel and wipe across. It dries and hydrates the paint.

https://www.ammonyc.com/shop/ammo-hydrate/

Skip to 2:00 (you do NOT need to soak the towel like that. Just put it on the hood or trunk and dab the towel a few times to get water into it)
