Options for scraped front bumper
I bought this 335i CPO recently, but I'm not sure whether I scraped it or the previous leaser did. It seems pretty deep as I can see the black presumably from the plastic, so the clear coat must have been removed. Luckily, it's not too noticeable from afar, but I'm still bothered by it so I'd like to repair it. What are my options?

Or just hit it with a bit of touch up paint. Its so minimal and low position wise that it will be nearly impossible to spot. One thing to consider is how it happened... adding a lip will only make clearance issues worse. |

Yea I think that if it already scraped at that position, then it wouldn't be worth it to add a lip. I was considering touch up paint but wasn't sure if it would make it look worse.

You'll have to be quite close, or flexible, to notice it if you take your time & touch it up with thin layers!

I'm considering getting touch up paint but worried the spot will be noticeable without wet sanding it beforehand and make the scrape even more noticeable after.

I don't know about wet-sanding, but you should remove any loose paint - not a bad idea to smooth the paint to bare spoiler transition.

Imo there are 5 options:
1) leave it as it is. With all those rockchips and pitting it’s not worth the effort just touching up the scrape. If you look close enough you’ll always keep seeing the damage since the plastic itself is scraped too. 2) Respray the whole bumper. Protect it with xpel afterwards or you’ll have to do it again after a year or two. (You’ll still be able to see that the plastic was damaged, but if done right a lot less than just a touch up) 3) spot repair (kinda like touching up, but more complex, timeconsuming and better result) 4) wrap it. 5) put a lip over it. (But that still leaves all those rockchips visible...) |
