Alloys warranty but need new tyres.
BMW have agreed to replace all 4 of my alloys under warranty due to corrosion which is great. However, they are saying they won't do it on my current tyres.
My fronts are at 4mm ( green on their sheet) rears at 4mm and 3mm (green and amber) Is this not a bit ridiculous? I don't want to spend £600 on new tyres when I don't need them. Any thoughts? Thanks Mark |

Sounds like up-selling to me, although you don't state whether the dealer is saying that it will supply and the tyres.
Your current tyres are legal. I'd simply tell the dealer they are to be fitted to your new wheels.

They offered a price on new tyres. £190 plus vat but said I could get from wherever I wanted. I'll email them and tell them they are going on the current tyres.
This is exactly the sort of nonsense that annoys me about BMW. Nothing is simple! |

Agree I’d probably change the rears if having new wheels and one of them is 3mm, but I definitely wouldnt be changing the fronts! |

3mm and 4mm. You're not that far away from new tyres all round anyway.
One option would be to get new tyres all round, but insist on getting the old tyres returned to you - then sell those on ebay. |

I would be preferring my brand spanking new wheels with the new tyres already on them, considering the very low available tread left on them. I wouldn't like to be visiting a tyre fitter soon afterwards, with the new balance weights & possibility of some minor damage when being fitted etc

Good luck with the new alloys. My 442Ms were replaced under warranty and the new ones have started rotting after 18 months.

Ah, yes overlooked that (it doesn’t show what model car you have on mobile browser view). It’s One of the reasons I went for a 330d over a 335d, throwing away perfectly good tyres just to keep them all within BMWs Xdrive tolerance sucks.

In the first 3 years I had 7 new wheels (442m's) and I have just had the mot done at the BMW garage as 2 rears are starting to corrode again, 18 months after they were changed but 12 months out of warranty.
BMW Germany didn't want to know but BMW UK have agreed to cover 80% of the cost. Then they tried to charge £75 to swop tyres out, which I bargained down to £30. I wonder how long the warranty will be on these wheels? |

No. Not in my 130k miles in a xdrive. Or yes, according to many sdrive users on this forum. Take your pick, neither answer is correct for every combination of tyres.

Additionally, BMW will sell you an AUC xdrive with one axle on 3mm and one on brand new tyres.
