The Honda thing might actually be as a result of the EU Japan trade deal... don’t need to build them in Europe if you can import them for free.

You see, all the f’in EUs fault

Looks like Japanese business is losing faith in the UK: Sony, Panasonic, Nissan, Honda
Honda has been investing in the UK for decades so today's announcement is sad indeed
Brexit is of course a factor in their decision making, as with the others, and any Brexiteers who fail to recognise this are in denial, pure and simple

Yep, certainly a factor but it's still a lot more expensive to ship cars from Japan to Europe than it is to ship them from the U.K.
More likely consolidation of manufacturing as a result of global downturn, with the U.K. being a far less attractive production base once out of the EU

It might be cheaper to ship them, but if you can ship from Japan tariff free, but not sure whether you'll have to pay a tariff shipping from the UK then that's a lot bigger issue than a shipping fee.

Let's face it, the Japanese were here because it made business sense, not because they loved us plucky Brits.... doesn't make business sense anymore, so they're off... who can blame them?

Indeed, wouldn't argue with that

Probably not a great deal in it. The cost of shipping from Japan might be prettty good, if the ports are near production and they end up in bigger more economic transports.

Swindon isn't exactly the ideal location for shipping to Spain for example. Whatever it is, the difference will be low 3 figures, and not enough to make up for tariffs and production savings.

Not sure we need a day of reckoning as Nesrine Malik puts it as I'd rather we were spared the pain. An insightful article nonetheless

You miss one extremely significant factor. Now that Japan have a nil tariffs trade deal with the EU, the extremely patriotic Japanese will repatriate assets home. The commercial advantage has gone for being eu based.Toyota at Derby will be next.

Thats just one the of Failings just recently. Other one is not Brexit related but his botched management of the Prison service and Privatisation of Probation resulting increased numbers returning to Prison.

33M is cheap for Grayling the probation cock up has cost half a Billion more than budgeted for..
